  1. 1. Thiamin (vitamin B1) in the aquatic food web

    Author : Emil Fridolfsson; Samuel Hylander; Michael T. Brett; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton; zooplankton; thiamin; transfer; food web dynamics; micronutrient; vitamin; Baltic Sea; community composition; M74; salmon; B1; växtplankton; djurplankton; tiamin; överföring; födoväv; mikronäringsämne; vitamin; Östersjön; B1; lax; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Abstract : Thiamin (vitamin B1) is required for several life-sustaining processes in most organisms and cells, e.g. in the conversion of food to energy. It also serves as an antioxidant and is important for proper nerve signaling. READ MORE

  2. 2. Baltic Sea phytoplankton in a changing environment

    Author : Mireia Bertos-Fortis; Catherine Legrand; Ilana Berman-Frank; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton ecology; cyanobacteria; dynamics; environmental factors; successional patterns; interactions; life strategies; non-ribosomal peptides; diversity; nodularin; N. spumigena; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Abstract : Future climate scenarios in the Baltic Sea project increasing sea surface temperature, as well as increasing precipitation and river runoff resulting in decreased salinity. These changes can severely impact the dynamics and function of brackish water communities, specifically phytoplankton. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular mechanisms involved in prokaryotic cycling of labile dissolved organic matter in the sea

    Author : Benjamin Pontiller; Jarone Pinhassi; Daniel Lundin; Catherine Legrand; Martin F. Polz; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Bacteria and archaea; labile dissolved organic matter; metatranscriptomics; monomers; polymers; carbohydrate-active enzymes CAZymes ; peptidases; membrane transporters; Natural Science; Naturvetenskap; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : Roughly half of the global primary production originates from microscopic phytoplankton in marine ecosystems, converting carbon dioxide into organic matter. This organic matter pool consists of a myriad of compounds that fuel heterotrophic bacterioplankton. READ MORE

  4. 4. Empty Names and Reference

    Author : Anna Bjurman; Teoretisk filosofi; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; disquotational reference; pretense; possible individuals; fictional world; intensional fictional operator; rigidity; empty names; reference; Philosophical logic; Teoretisk filosofi; logik;

    Abstract : The problem of empty names derives from the fact that empty names fail to refer. The reference failure of empty names implies that sentences containing empty names lack truth-conditions. As a consequence those sentences are meaningless, according to many theories of meaning. 5. 5. Olfactory Metacognition : A Metamemory Perspective on Odor Naming

    Author : Fredrik Jönsson; Mats Olsson; Henrik Olsson; Egon P. Köster; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Psychology; odor identification; odor naming; metamemory; confidence; tip of the tongue experience; tip of the nose experience; feeling of knowing; Psykologi; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Although many aspects of odor naming have received attention during the years, the participants' own cognitions (metamemory) about their naming attempts have not. (i) We showed that feeling of knowing (FOK) judgments accompanying odor naming failures are predictive of later recognition (Study I) or retrieval (Study III) of the missing name, but to a lesser degree than equivalent judgments about names of persons.
