  1. 1. Enantioselective Binding of Designed Propranolol Analogues to the Cellobiohydrolase Cel7A

    University dissertation from Organic Chemistry, Lund University

    Author : Alexandra Fagerström; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Strukturkemi; Structure chemistry; enzymologi; Proteiner; enzymology; Proteins; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; capillary electrophoresis; chiral recognition; enantiomeric selectivity; cellobiohydrolase Cel7A; propranolol; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the affinity and enantiomeric selectivity of the cellobiohydrolase Cel7A (isolated from Hypocrea jercorina). The chiral recognition of the enzyme has been studied with respect to amino alcohols and new ligands have been designed, based on the structure of the common ?-blocker propranolol. READ MORE

  2. 2. Stereoselective Transport of Drugs Across the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) In Vivo and In Vitro Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Studies of the (S)- and (R)-Enantiomers of Different 5-HT1A Receptor Agonists and Antagonists

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Hongmei Yan; Lennart Paalzow; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; pindolol; propranolol; 2- di-n-propylamino tetralin; racemate; enantiomer; drug distribution; brain; rat; blood-brain barrier; Neurovetenskap; MEDICINE Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine Internal medicine Neurology; MEDICIN Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin Invärtesmedicin Neurologi; Psychiatry; psykiatri;

    Abstract : Delivery of drugs to the brain requires passage across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Both for drugs already on the market and for new drugs under development, it is important to know to what extent a drug enters the CNS. Many drugs used clinically are racemic mixtures, i.e. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nano- and Micro-sized Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Materials for Analytical Application

    University dissertation from Pure and Applied Biochemistry, Lund University

    Abstract : Over the last decade environmental agencies worldwide have escalated their work to phase out animal testing for the purposes of chemical regulation. Meanwhile the number of commercially available chemicals and the requirements for hazard assessments have both increased, creating a large need for substitution of traditional in vivo assays with in vitro tests. 5. 5. Psychotropic Pharmaceuticals in Aquatic Systems: An Ecological Perspective

    University dissertation from Department of Biology, Lund University

    Author : Melanie Hedgespeth; [2015]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecotoxicology; aquatic; trophic level; pharmaceutical; SSRI; beta-blocker; sertraline; fluoxetine; propranolol; fish; daphnia; snail; predator; prey; behavior; life history; multiple stressor;

    Abstract : Psychotropic pharmaceuticals have been shown to exert a variety of sublethal effects on non-target organisms, even at low concentrations found in the environment (ng/L to µg/L); hence, the aim of my research has been to determine the individual-level effects of psychotropic pharmaceuticals (the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors sertraline and fluoxetine, and the β-blocker propranolol) on behavioral and life history traits in freshwater organisms. Further, this research was directed towards assessing the potential large-scale impacts of these effects on population growth and predator-prey interactions (with community-level implications) via the application of traditional, ecological concepts and models.
