  3. 13. Lactic acid production: extractive fermentation in aqueous two-phase systems

    Author : Jordi Planes; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; gel excludion chromatography; polyethylenimine; ethylene oxide propylene oxide; phase forming polymers; aqueous two-phase systems; extractive fermentation; Lactococcus; Lactobacillus; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Microbiology;

    Abstract : There is an increased interest in the microbial production of lactic acid as a raw material for the synthesis of lactic acid polymers as biodegradable plastics. However, two factors limit the economical competitiveness of lactic acid production by microorganisms: lactic acid inhibition, which decreases both fermentation rate and the maximum lactic acid concentration, and the efficiency in the recovery of lactic acid. 4. 14. Quantitative analysis of DNA adducts formed by some epoxides of industrial importance

    Author : Kamila Plná; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : DNA adducts; 32P-postlabelling; cancer; genotoxicity; occupational; epoxides; allyl glycidyl ether; propylene oxide; epichlorohydrin;

    Abstract : The work presented herein has focused on DNA adduct formation by three industrial epoxides, allyl glycidyl ether, propylene oxide and epichlorohydrin. Epoxides, owing to the strained oxirane ring are chemically reactive and can alkylate various sites in DNA. READ MORE

  5. 15. Electrolyte structures and ionization conditions for iontophoretic drug formulation of local anesthetics

    Author : Kiomars Karami; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Physical and Inorganic Pharmaceutical Chemistry; fysikalisk och oorganisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : Iontophoresis is a modern method of drug delivery by which charged bioactive molecules (drugs) are transferred from an electrolytic reservoir into and through a tissue, normally skin, by means of a weak electric current. The drug is placed in a conductive medium, usually an aqueous solution or a hydrogel, between the "active" electrode and the skin. READ MORE
