  1. 1. A study on the vascular effects of prostaglandin F2α[ and latanaprost in the eye with special reference to the surface hyperaemia after topical administration

    Author : Maria Astin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Prostaglandin F2a; Prostaglandin F2a-isopropyl ester; latanoprost; latanoprost acid; ocular hyperaemia; blood flow; sensory nerves; veins; arteries; nitric oxide; substance P; CGRP; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Pharmacognosy; farmakognosi;

    Abstract : The ocular hypotensive effect of topically applied prostaglandins is usually accompanied byconjunctival hyperaemia and irritation. The purpose of the present study was to investigate thepharmacological mechanism of the ocular surface hyperaemia induced by topically appliedprostaglandins, particularly prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) and its synthetic analogue latanoprost, aselective FP prostanoid receptor agonist. 2. 2. Prostaglandins and Isoprostanes in Relation to Risk Factors for Atherosclerosis : Role of Inflammation and Oxidative Stress

    Author : Johanna Helmersson; Samar Basu; Bengt Vessby; Tommy Cederholm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Public health; prostaglandin F2α; F2-isoprostane; interleukin-6; C-reactive protein; serum amyloid A; tocopherols; cardiovascular risk factors; variation; inflammation; oxidative stress; human; Folkhälsomedicin; Public health medicine research areas; Folkhälsomedicinska forskningsområden;

    Abstract : Inflammation and oxidative stress may be involved in atherogenesis. This thesis describes clinical studies of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α), an inflammatory mediator, and the isoprostane 8-iso-PGF2α, a reliable indicator of oxidative stress, and cytokine-related inflammatory mediators and indicators in healthy subjects and in a population-based cohort of Swedish men. 3. 3. The prostanoid FP receptor and uveoscleral outflow : A study of FP receptor expression and functions in the eye

    Author : Anette Ocklind; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Prostanoid FP receptor; tissue distribution; ciliary muscle; iris sphincter muscle; extracellular matrix; actin; prostaglandin F2a; latanoprost; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Prostaglandin F2α is a prostanoid FP receptor agonist which acts as an intraocular pressure-lowering agent by increasing the uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humour through the ciliary muscle. The aim of this, thesis was to investigate possible mechanisms of the increased uveoscleral outflow induced by prostaglandin F2α and its analogue latanoprost acid. READ MORE

  4. 4. Receptor-mediated uterine effects of oxytocin and vasopressin

    Author : Ragner Liedman; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []

    Abstract : The neurohypophyseal hormones oxytocin and vasopressin are important in the regulation of uterine contractility. These hormones, as well as prostaglandin F2α, are most forceful myometrial tissue contractors. READ MORE

  5. 5. Lipid peroxidation in vivo : Evaluation and application of methods for measurement

    Author : Eva Södergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; lipid peroxidation; hydroperoxides; F2-isoprostanes; MDA; prostaglandins; measurement; carbon tetrachloride; vitamin E; dietary fat quality; rapeseed oil; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Abstract : Lipid peroxidation is thought to be an important factor in the pathophysiology of a number of diseases and in the process of ageing, but its measurement in vivo has been difficult. The aim of this thesis was to evaluate methods for measurement of lipid peroxidation in vivo that are suitable for clinical investigations, and to apply these methods in animal and human studies investigating basal conditions and situations associated with increased lipid peroxidation.
