  1. 16. Structure and function of microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1

    Author : Sven-Christian Pawelzik; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The glutathione-dependent enzyme microsomal prostaglandin E synthase-1 (MPGES1) plays a pivotal role in inflammatory diseases. MPGES1 is up-regulated by pro-inflammatory cytokines in concert with cyclooxygenase (COX) -2, and the concerted action of both enzymes leads to the production of induced prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a potent lipid mediator of inflammation, pain, and fever. 3. 18. Prostaglandin E2 influences the gastrointestinal endocrine cell system in the rat

    Author : Marjo Kapraali; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : CCK; EC cells; ECL cells; endocrine cell system; glucagon; indomethacin; neurokinin A; neurotensin; prostaglandin E2; somatostatin;

    Abstract : Previous studies suggest that prostaglandin E2 may interact with gastrointestinal endocrine cells. Our aim was to examine whether erogenous and endogenous prostaglandins - particularly prostaglandin E2 - influence the endocrine cell system in the rat gastrointestinal tract. READ MORE

  4. 19. Apnea and infection in neonates : mediatory role of interleukin-1Beta and prostaglandin E2

    Keywords : respiration; interleukin-1Beta; prostaglandin E2; newborns; rodents; brainstem;

    Abstract : The breathing pattern of infants, particularly preterm infants, is often irregular or periodic and is frequently interrupted by apnea. The latter represents a major concern in haematology, yet much remains unknown about its incidence, appearance, and pathophysiology. READ MORE

    Abstract : Macrophages are cells of the innate immune system that can be found in large quantities in cancer tumors and affect cancer progression by regulating growth and invasiveness of cancer cells. There are two main phenotypes of macrophages denoted M1 and M2. READ MORE
