  1. 11. Hypoxic Blackout in Serial Freediving – Protective Mechanisms and Risk Factors

    Author : Frank Pernett; Erika Schagatay; Glenn Björklund; Anton Westman; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breath-hold diving; diving response; hyperventilation; hypoxia; oxygen saturation; oxygen stores; pulse oximetry; sonography; splenic contraction.;

    Abstract : Breath-hold diving or freediving exposes the body to stressors such as low oxygen and high carbon dioxide levels in the blood, increased hydrostatic pressure, and cold. The reduction in blood oxygen levels is considered a primary factor for loss of consciousness while diving. This is known as hypoxic blackout. READ MORE

  2. 12. Child behaviour and pain after hospitalization, surgery and anaesthesia

    Author : Mats Karling; Bruno Hägglöf; Per Gustafsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; child behaviour; pain; validation; child; hospitalised; pain prevalence; factor analysis; risk factors; Anaesthetics; Anestesiologi;

    Abstract : Hospitalization, surgery and anaesthesia are for some children associated with anxiety and could be a frightful experience which may result in later problematic behaviour. Pain is associated with the fears of hospitalization. READ MORE

  3. 13. Roles of membrane vesicles in bacterial pathogenesis

    Author : Svitlana Vdovikova; Sun Nyunt Wai; Richard Lundmark; Ann-Beth Jonsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane vesicles; autophagy; pore-forming toxin; pore formation; Listeria monocytogenes; Vibrio cholerae; virulence factor; PrtV protease; listeriolysin O; V. cholerae cytolysin; mikrobiologi; Microbiology; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The production of membranous vesicles is observed to occur among organisms from all domains of the tree of life spanning prokaryotes (bacteria, archaea) and eukaryotes (plants, animals and fungi). Bacterial release of membrane-derived vesicles (MVs) has been studied most extensively in cases of Gram-negative species and implicating their outer membrane in formation of extracellular MVs. 4. 14. Aspects of heart failure development and prevention in women

    Author : Anna-Karin Halldin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Women; Heart failure; Obesity; Physical activity; Population study; Risk factor; Prevention; Mental stress; Serum triglycerides; Serum cholesterol;

    Abstract : Heart failure (HF) is a severe progressive condition. Women more often are older and suffer from heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), contrasting to men who more often are younger and suffer from heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). READ MORE

  5. 15. Stress response regulation and protein aggregate inheritance in Caulobacter crescentus

    Author : Frederic Dominique Schramm; Kristina Jonas; Franz Narberhaus; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stress; protein aggregation; cellular aging; molecular chaperones; heat shock response; DnaK; sigma factor; suppressor genes; DNA replication; starvation; Caulobacter crescentus; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Many stress conditions a cell encounters threaten the continuation of basic biological processes ultimately endangering its survival. Heat shock and antibiotic exposure can lead to a sudden surge of protein un- and misfolding, while nutrient starvation directly causes a lack of energy and molecular building blocks. READ MORE
