6. Antibody based plasma protein profiling
Abstract : This thesis is about protein profiling in serum and plasma using antibody suspension bead arrays for the analysis of biobanked samples and in the context of prostate cancer biomarker discovery. The influence of sample preparation methods on antibody based protein profiles were investigated (Papers I-III) and a prostate cancer candidate biomarker identified and verified (Papers III-V). 7. Exploration of analytical methods to study motif-mediated host-virus protein-protein interactions
Abstract : Proteins are responsible for countless processes in living creatures, but most often they do not perform these tasks alone. Rather, they engage in interactions with other proteins, creating whole protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. READ MORE

8. Validation of antibodies for protein profiling : A study using immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays
Abstract : The field of proteomics has rapidly expanded due to the completion of the human genome sequence. This thesis validates affinity-purified monospecific antibodies of polyclonal origin, for protein profiling in a broad spectrum of normal tissues and cells. READ MORE

9. Tailoring of Antibody Arrays - Technical Advances Towards Global Proteome Analysis
Abstract : Abstract The number of cancer and autoimmune disease diagnoses increases in our society, which place high demands on the health care system. Being able to tailor treatments for each individual patient is called "Personalized medicine", and could revolutionize the care in the future. READ MORE

10. Studies on the Differential Specificity of Protein Kinases and Its Applications
Abstract : Protein kinases are enzymes that catalyse the phosphoryl transfer from the g-phosphate of ATP to acceptor amino acids in proteins. The specificity of selected model protein kinases was studied at three different levels using a) novel bi-substrate-analogue inhibitors, b) synthetic peptide substrates and c) mutated protein substrate analogues.
