  1. 1. Materials Based on Protein Nanofibrils

    Author : Xinchen Ye; Mikael S. Hedenqvist; Christofer Lendel; Richard T. Olsson; Jonny Blaker; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; protein nanofibrils; whey protein; hydrogel; film; microfibre; protein structure; mechanical properties;

    Abstract : Protein nanofibrils (PNFs) prepared from whey protein isolate (WPI) at low pH and elevated temperature were processed into materials, i.e. hydrogels, films, foams, and fibres, for different applications where they could potentially be sustainable alternatives to petroleum-based polymers. 2. 2. Material Properties of Cereal Protein Films

    Author : Thomas Gillgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; plasticization; avenin; prolamin; kafirin; mechanical properties; water vapour permeability; oxygen permeability; protein; film; glass transition temperature; zein;

    Abstract : Materials that are renewable and biodegradable are demanded due to environmental aspects. Biopolymeric materials, such as materials from prolamins, fulfil both of these requirements. Prolamins are cereal storage proteins. Examples of such are zein, gluten, kafirin and avenin from maize, wheat, sorghum and oats, respectively. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Mussel Adhesive Protein (Mefp-1) : A GREEN Corrosion Inhibitor

    Author : Fan Zhang; Jinshan Pan; Douglas C. Hansen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon steel; mussel adhesive protein; Mefp-1; inhibitor; adsorption; film forming; complexation; cross-linking; ceria nanoparticle; composite film; EIS; AFM; QCM-D; ATR-FTIR; Confocal Raman Micro-spectroscopy; DFT calculation;

    Abstract : Corrosion of metallic materials is a natural process, and our study shows that even in an alkaline environment severe corrosion may occur on a carbon steel surface. While corrosion cannot be stopped it can be retarded. READ MORE

  4. 4. Material Properties of Starch and Cereal Protein Films and Foams

    Author : Thomas Gillgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; foam; avenin; oxygen permeability; amylopectin; water vapour permeability; plasticization; mechanical properties; zein; film; glass transition temperature; kafirin; prolamin; cereal protein; amylose; starch;

    Abstract : Materials that are renewable and biodegradable are demanded for environmental reasons. Biopolymeric materials, such as materials from starch and cereal proteins, are both renewable and biodegradable. However, starch and cereal protein materials are generally rather brittle and therefore need to be plasticized to become more flexible. READ MORE

  5. 5. Interactions between polymers and the environment

    Author : Nazanin Alipour; Mikael S. Hedenqvist; Antal Boldizar; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Deltamethrin; piperonyl butoxide; polyethylene; migration; multilayer film; EVOH; n-hexane; crystallization; mechanical properties; X-ray scattering; swelling; larvae; protein; lipid; moisture sorption; release; nanoclay; polypropylene; degradation; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : This dissertation addresses the structure and properties of a number of polymer-based materials when they come into contact with specific environments. The first part describes the migration and depletion of active substances from insecticide-impregnated polyethylene sheets in water and air at different humidity levels and higher temperatures.
