6. Protein-protein interactions in model systems : design, control of catalytic activity and biosensor applications
Abstract : This thesis describes the design of polypeptides, unordered in the monomeric state but capable of folding into helix-loop-helix motifs and dimerise to form four-helix bundles. The goal of the design was to encode them with the capacity to form dimers highly selectively and the ability to carry out molecular functions in the folded state but not in the unordered state, and thus to establish a molecular link between recognition and function. 7. Structure determination and thermodynamic stabilization of an engineered protein-protein complex
Abstract : The interaction between two 6 kDa proteins has been investigated. The studied complex of micromolar affinity (Kd) consists of the Z domain derived from staphylococcal protein A and the related protein ZSPA-1, belonging to a group of binding proteins denoted affibody molecules generated via combinatorial engineering of the Z domain. 8. The birth and growth of the protein folding nucleus : Studies of protein folding focused on critical contacts, topology and ionic interactions
Abstract : Proteins are among the most complex molecules in the cell and they play a major role in life itself. The complexity is not restricted to just structure and function, but also embraces the protein folding reaction. READ MORE

9. Human Aquaporins: Production, Characterization and Interactions
Abstract : Membrane proteins are essential components of the cell and responsible for the communication with the outside environment and transport of molecules across the membrane. Water transport is facilitated by aquaporins, which are water selective transmembrane pores that serve to maintain cell homeostasis. READ MORE

10. Protein-surfactant interactions
Abstract : Protein-surfactant interactions in aqueous media have been investigated. The globular proteins lysozyme and bovine serum albumin (BSA) served as model proteins. Several ionic and non-ionic surfactants were used.Fluorescence probe measurements showed that at low sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) concentration (< 0. READ MORE
