  1. 1. Adipocyte phosphatases and the antilipolytic action of insulin

    Author : Svante Resjö; Signaltransduktionsforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; protein phosphorylation; protein purification; adipose tissue; PP2A; protein phosphatase; PDE3B; phosphodiesterase 3B; Insulin signalling; antilipolysis; Klinisk biologi; Clinical biology; PKB; protein kinase B;

    Abstract : Adipose tissue is the main site of energy storage of the body and an important endocrine organ. Knowledge of the regulation of fat metabolism and the endocrine factors secreted by the adipocyte is crucial for the understanding of diseases such as obesity and diabetes. Insulin is the main antilipolytic hormone. READ MORE

  2. 2. Protein phosphorylation in plant mitochondria

    Author : André Struglics; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FoF1-ATPase; autophosphorylation; protein kinase activity; protein phosphorylation; Plant mitochondria; inner mitochondrial membrane; NDPK; Physiological biophysics; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Protein phosphorylation in the subcompartments of plant mitochondria was investigated by labelling with [gamma-32P]ATP and by SDS-PAGE/autoradiography. About 20 proteins in inside-out inner mitochondrial membranes from potato tubers were phosphorylated by endogenous protein kinases when incubated with [gamma-32P]ATP. READ MORE

  3. 3. Computational Protein Evolution : Modeling the Selectivity and Promiscuity of Engineered Enzymes

    Author : Klaudia Szeler; Shina C. Lynn Kamerlin; Mikael Widersten; Maria Ramos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; enzymes; kinetics; catalysis; density functional theory; empirical valence bond; diesters; evolution; promiscuity; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Enzymes are biological catalysts that significantly increase the rate of all biochemical reactions that take place within cells and are essential to maintain life. Many questions regarding their function remain unknown. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molecular targets for glucocorticoids in macrophages: cytosolic phospholipase A2 and cytokine formation

    Author : Karin Gewert; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pharmacognosy; Pharmacological sciences; signal transduction; dexamethasone; cytosolic phospholipase A2; glucocorticoids; macrophages; protein kinase C; mitogen-activated protein kinases; TNF-alpha; IL-1beta; protein phosphatases; okadaic acid; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this investigation has been to study mechanisms by which glucocorticoids inhibit inflammatory processes in vitro. Type IV cytosolic 85 kDa phospholipase A2 (cPLA2) is an important modulator of inflammatory responses that is present in macrophages as well as in other cell types. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sequence- and structure guided engineering of proteins and enzymes for biotechnology and health applications

    Author : Karen Schriever; Per-Olof Syrén; Elton P. Hudson; Eric A. Gaucher; KTH; []

    Abstract : Proteins are highly diverse and sophisticated biomolecules that represent a cornerstone of biological structure and function and have been exploited in man-made applications for thousands of years. Those proteins that facilitate chemical reactions at physiologically relevant time-scales are referred to as enzymes. READ MORE
