  1. 1. Structure determination and thermodynamic stabilization of an engineered protein-protein complex

    Author : Elisabet Wahlberg; Per-Åke Nygren; Bengt-Harald Jonsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; affibody; protein structure; coupled folding; NMR spectroscopy; protein stability; protein-protein interactions; binding thermodynamics; isothermal titration calorimetry; protein engineering; Structural biochemistry; Strukturbiokemi;

    Abstract : The interaction between two 6 kDa proteins has been investigated. The studied complex of micromolar affinity (Kd) consists of the Z domain derived from staphylococcal protein A and the related protein ZSPA-1, belonging to a group of binding proteins denoted affibody molecules generated via combinatorial engineering of the Z domain.     Keywords : Bioinformatic methods in protein characterization;

    Abstract : Bioinformatics is an emerging interdisciplinary research field in which mathematics. computer science and biology meet. In this thesis. bioinformatic methods for analysis of functional and structural properties among proteins will be presented. READ MORE

  3. 3. Bio-Nano Interactions : Synthesis, Functionalization and Characterization of Biomaterial Interfaces

    Author : Yixiao Cai; Xia Wei; Mikael Karlsson; Martin Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Bioactive surfaces; nanocrystalline diamond; hydroxyapatite; protein secondary structure; protein absorption; auditory neurons; single crystalline rutile; nano morphology; surface functionalisation; in vitro biomineralisation; translucent nano-ceramics; bio-window material; material characterisation.; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Abstract : Current strategies for designing biomaterials involve creating materials and interfaces that interact with biomolecules, cells and tissues.  This thesis aims to investigate several bioactive surfaces, such as nanocrystalline diamond (NCD), hydroxyapatite (HA) and single crystalline titanium dioxide, in terms of material synthesis, surface functionalization and characterization. 4. 4. On diverse biophysical aspects of genetics : from the action of regulators to the characterization of transcripts

    Author : Aymeric Fouquier D´Hérouel; Erik Aurell; Felix Ritort; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transcription regulation; regulatory motifs; binding affinity; genetic interactions; secondary structure; sequence repeats; transcript characterization; Biological physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : Genetics is among the most rewarding fields of biology for the theoretically inclined, offering both room and need for modeling approaches in the light of an abundance of experimental data of different kinds. Many aspects of the field are today understood in terms of physical and chemical models, joined by information theoretical descriptions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Secondary and Higher Order Structural Characterization of Peptides and Proteins by Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Christopher Adams; Roman Zubarev; Göran Possnert; Carlito Lebrilla; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; Protein Structure; Mass Spectrometry; Electron Capture Dissociation; Tandem Mass Spectrometry; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : The work in this thesis has demonstrated the advantages and limitations of using MS based technologies in protein and peptide structural studies. Tandem MS, specifically electron capture dissociation (ECD) have shown the ability to provide structural insights in molecules containing the slightest of all modifications (D-AA substitution).
