  2. 12. Evaluation of UHT milk processed by direct steam injection and steam infusion technology

    Author : Bozena Malmgren; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sedimentation; gel formation; microstructure; TEM transmission electron microscopy; immunogold labelling; heat effects; Technological sciences; Teknik; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; proteolysis; steam infusion; UHT milk; steam injection;

    Abstract : UHT direct steam injection and steam infusion are widely used; however there is no comparison of their impact on milk components. This study evaluates the structural changes at different steps during the UHT processing of whole milk in a full-scale UHT plant by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and particle size measurements, and follows the enzymatic activity. 3. 13. Pathogen-host interactions at the surface of Streptococcus pyogenes

    Author : Patrik Nyberg; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infektioner; Infections; C3a; LL-37; antimicrobial peptide; GRAB; alpha-2-macroglobulin; proteolysis; SpeB; internalization; virulence; protein F1; Streptococcus pyogenes; fibronectin;

    Abstract : The bacterial surface can be thought of as the interface where pathogenic bacteria encounter the human host. Interactions between bacterial surface proteins and human proteins are important determinants of the eventual outcome of infection. READ MORE

  4. 14. Calcium transporting ATPases in plant cells

    Author : Malin Olbe; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Triticum aestivum; calcium; Brij 58; calmodulin; Ca2 signalling; inside-out; endoplasmic reticulum; plant; plasma membrane; proteolysis; P-type ATPase; spinach; Spinacea oleracea; trypsin; two-phase; wheat.; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Abstract : Plant cells carry Ca2+ ATPases to maintain the low resting level of cytosolic Ca2+ (0.1-0.2 µM) found in all eukaryotes. Plant Ca2+ ATPases are mainly located in the plasma membrane, the endoplasmic reticulum and in the vacuolar membrane, and consequently large Ca2+ gradients are created across these membranes. 5. 15. Regulation of photosynthesis -Cytochrome b6f in redox regulation -Two novel proteases acting on an N-terminal peptide of LHCII

    Author : Jörgen Ström; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi; cGEP; proteolysis; protease; protein phosphorylation; redox regulation; light-harvesting antenna; cytochrome b6f; chloroplast; Photosynthesis;

    Abstract : In higher plants photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast. This work focuses on two different processes that effects photosynthesis. Firstly, we studied the events occurring prior to the phosphorylation of LHCII. Secondly, we also studied two novel proteases, with the potential to degrade LHCII. READ MORE
