21. Probing the Drip-Lines through Momentum Distributions
Abstract : About a decade ago it was found that nuclei in the vicinity of the neutron drip-line under certain circumstances develop very extended valence neutron distributions, a phenomenon today known as halo states. The recent development of radioactive nuclear beams has provided us with a perfect tool for investigating these particular nuclei. READ MORE

22. Experiments on Laser-Based Particle Acceleration : Beams of Energetic Electrons and Protons
Abstract : This thesis describes experiments involving laser-plasma-based acceleration of electrons and protons, using the techniques of laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA) and target normal sheath acceleration (TNSA). By using extremely high accelerating field strengths, up to the order of TV m-1, it is possible to reach high kinetic particle energies over very short distances. READ MORE

23. Measurement of Multi-Jet Production in Proton-Proton Collisions at 7 TeV Center-of-Mass Energy and Hadronic Calibration Studies with the ATLAS Detector at CERN
Abstract : The ATLAS experiment – situated at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva – took its first collsion data in 2010. Physics topics include finding the Higgs boson, heavy quark physics, and looking for extensions of the Standard Model of Particle Physics such as supersymmetry. READ MORE

24. Gamow -Teller Beta Decay in Drip Line Nuclei
Abstract : Before radioactive ion beams became available, the Gamow-Teller (GT) giant resonance was studied using charge-exchange reactions such as (p,n) and (He,t). In beta-stable nuclei, which can be used as targets, the GT giant resonance lies above the ground state of the mother nucleus. READ MORE

25. Skull base meningioma : Surgical and adjuvant treatment with clinical and PET evaluation
Abstract : The treatment strategy for skull base meningiomas remains a controversial issue. Because of the proximity of these tumours to critical neurovascular structures, the risk for vascular damage and new cranial neuropathies postoperatively is significant. READ MORE
