    Abstract : Hydrogen technologies are rapidly receiving increased attention as it offers a renewable energy alternative to the current petroleum-based fuel infrastructure, considering that continued large-scale use of such fossil fuels will lead to disastrous impacts on our environment. The proton exchange membrane fuel cell should play a significant role in a hydrogen economy since it enables convenient and direct conversion of hydrogen into electricity, thus allowing the use of hydrogen in applications particularly suited for the transportation industry. 2. 2. Elucidating the molecular basis of Na+/H+ exchange

    Author : Pascal F. Meier; David Drew; Simon Newstead; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein; secondary-active transporter; Solute Carrier Transporter; ion-exchange; sodium proton exchanger; potassium proton exchanger; protein structure; cryo-EM; regulation; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Solute carrier (SLC) transporters are membrane transport proteins, which catalyse the movement of nutrients, ions, and drugs across cell membranes. Here, I will present our contribution to understanding the mechanism of the sodium/proton exchangers (NHE), belonging to the SLC9 family of membrane transporters. READ MORE

  3. 3. Monitoring Proton Exchange and Triplet States with Fluorescence

    Author : Tor Sandén; Jerker Widengren; Vogel Horst; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; proton transfer; cytochrome c oxidase; transient state imaging; modulated excitation; Optics; Optik; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Fluorescent molecules commonly shift to transient dark states, induced bylight or triggered by chemical reactions. The transient dark states can beused as probes of the local environment surrounding the fluorescent molecules,and are therefore attractive for use in biomolecular applications. READ MORE

  4. 4. Establishing the molecular mechanism of sodium/proton exchangers

    Author : Povilas Uzdavinys; David Drew; Peter Brzezinski; M.D. Daniel Fuster; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein; secondary active transporters; sodium proton exchangers; proton transport; structure; energetics; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Sodium/proton exchangers are ubiquitous secondary active transporters that can be found in all kingdoms of life. These proteins facilitate the transport of protons in exchange for sodium ions to help regulate internal pH, sodium levels, and cell volume. READ MORE

  5. 5. Proton-Conducting Sulfonated Aromatic Ionomers and Membranes by Chemical Modifications and Polycondensations

    Author : Elin Persson Jutemar; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
