  1. 1. Architectural prototypes : modes of design development and architectural practice

    Author : Jonas Runberger; Katja Grillner; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; architecture theory; design theory; prototype; performance; effect; affect; architectural design project; parametric model; design solution space; fabrication; production; industrial process; research by design; digital practice; projective practice; generative components; krets; parcel; splinegraft; urbantoys v.2; informed modularity; Architecture; Arkitektur;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis is design driven, partly based on case studies in the form of experimental design projects developed mainly within the research and design collective Krets. It constitutes the first half of a PhD project that studies new technologies and techniques within design processes and the production of architecture, especially in relation to collaborative models. 2. 2. Design Space Exploration : co-operative creation of proposals for desired interactions with future artefacts

    Author : Bo Westerlund; Yngve Sundblad; Peter Ullmark; Elizabeth B.-N. Sanders; KTH; []

    Abstract : This thesis critically reflects on co-operative design workshops that I have conducted. The basic method used in these workshops draws on the participants’ embodied knowing. READ MORE

  3. 3. Human brains and virtual realities : Computer-generated presence in theory and practice

    Author : Daniel Sjölie; Lars-Erik Janlert; Johan Eriksson; Giuseppe Riva; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human brain function; virtual reality; presence; cognitive neuroscience; human-computer interaction; brain imaging; fMRI; BCI; neural correlates; HCI theory; reality-based interaction.;

    Abstract : A combined view of the human brain and computer-generated virtual realities is motivated by recent developments in cognitive neuroscience and human-computer interaction (HCI). The emergence of new theories of human brain function, together with an increasing use of realistic human-computer interaction, give reason to believe that a better understanding of the relationship between human brains and virtual realities is both possible and valuable. Abstract : This thesis is an investigation into the meaning of the ‘reflexive’ pronoun in English, and provides a cross-linguistic generalization concerning the structurally distinct forms that can be associated with the ‘reflexive’. Before the question of the meaning of the ‘reflexive’ pronoun in English is addressed directly, the theoretical framework, primarily Structuralist, in which the results of the study are to be understood is outlined.
