  1. 1. Craniofacial pain of cardiac origin : an interdisciplinary study

    Author : Marcelo Kreiner; Annika Isberg; Antoon de Laat; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute myocardial infarction; myocardial ischemia; craniofacial pain; referred pain; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : Referred pain is frequently associated with misdiagnosis and unnecessary therapy directed to the pain location instead of its origin. When craniofacial pain is the sole symptom of myocardial ischemia, failure to recognize its cardiac source can endanger the patient. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optimizing and evaluation of a methacholine provocation test : with application in occupational research

    Author : Britt-Marie Sundblad; Bengt-Eric Skoogh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; Airway responsiveness; methacholine provocation; nitric oxide; eucapnic hyperventilation; organic dust; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : We have developed a methacholine provocation method, which detects bronchial responsiveness in more than 80% of healthy subjects. The method enables us to detect differences in bronchial responsiveness within the normal range. With this method FEV1 and Gaw had similar sensitivity in detecting small differences in bronchial responsiveness. READ MORE

  3. 3. Idiopathic environmental intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields : physiological and psychological aspects

    Author : Amanda Johansson; Lena Hillert; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : electrical hypersensitivity; EHS; mobile phone; MP; heart rate variability; HRV; provocation study; radiofrequency field; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to increase the knowledge on people with symptoms attributed to electromagnetic fields (EMF) by investigating the effects of EMF exposure and by additional description of the heterogeneous group of people reporting EMF-related symptoms. The effect of mobile phone (MP)-like radio frequency (RF) fields on symptoms, autonomic nervous system (ANS) parameters, short-term memory, and reaction time in persons with MP-related symptoms (MP participants) was investigated in a provocation study. 4. 4. The Making of Protest and Protest Policing: Negotiation, Knowledge, Space, and Narrative

    Author : Mattias Wahlström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Collective violence; Narrative analysis; Police knowledge; Protest policing; Protest; Provocation; Public Space; Social Movements; Territoriality;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis is to advance our knowledge of the preconditions, processes, and consequences of the interaction between police and political protesters in contemporary Western democracies. Using qualitative analysis of interviews with police officers and political activists, activist Internet forum discussions, and documents produced by police and activists, along with direct observation of protest events and police training in policing tactics, the study seeks to capture the interplay between police and protesters as a continuous process, as opposed to a series of isolated incidents. 5. 5. Pharmacometrics Modelling in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus : Implications on Study Design and Diabetes Disease Progression

    Author : Siti Maisharah Sheikh Ghadzi; Maria C. Kjellsson; Mats O. Karlsson; Sandra Visser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacometric; type 2 diabetes mellitus; impaired glucose tolerance; prediabetes; anti-diabetes drug development; insulin; glucose; natural diabetes disease progression; lifestyle intervention; short-term provocation; long-term effect; glucose homeostasis; glucose and insulin regulation; weight; dropout; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology;

    Abstract : Pharmacometric modelling is widely used in many aspects related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), for instance in the anti-diabetes drug development, and in quantifying the disease progression of T2DM.The aim of this thesis were to improve the design of early phase anti-diabetes drug development studies with the focus on the power to identify mechanism of drug action (MoA), and to characterize and quantify the progression from prediabetes to overt diabetes, both the natural progression and the progression with diet and exercise interventions, using pharmacometrics modelling.
