  1. 6. On the importance of inflammation for personality traits and psychiatric morbidity

    Author : Petra Suchankova; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inflammation; C-reactive protein; complement factor H; S100B; receptor for advanced glycation end products; polymorphism; gene expression; personality traits; suicidal behaviour; schizophrenia; depression; Flinders sensitive line;

    Abstract : Background: Pro-inflammatory mediators have been implicated in processes that could be both beneficial and toxic to cells in the brain. On the one hand balanced levels of these mediators favour e.g. READ MORE

    Author : Catalina Torres Soler; Kent W. Nilsson; Cecilia Åslund; Sofia H Kanders; Åsa Westrin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Adolescent; parent; depression; scale; genetics; Adolescente; padres; evaluación; scale; depression; genética; Child and Youth Psychiatry; Barn- och ungdomspsykiatri;

    Abstract : Depression is a common disorder and a major cause of disability. The prevalence of depression in adolescents is 12-25%. The use of valid instruments in psychiatric assessment contributes to diagnostic validity and consistency. READ MORE

  3. 8. Migraine comorbidities : Associations with psychiatric and gastrointestinal disorders

    Author : Nike Welander; Jessica Mwinyi; Mattias Linde; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Migraine; Comorbidity; Psychiatric disorders; Gastrointestinal disorders; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Migraine is a prevalent neurological disorder with a complex pathophysiology. One factor that potentially complicates migraine treatment is comorbidity between migraine and other disorders, including psychiatric and gastrointestinal disorders. READ MORE

  4. 9. Importance of serotonin-related candidate genes for human behaviour

    Author : Jonas Melke; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; serotonin; genetics; polymorphism; association study; personality; panic disorder; premenstrual dysphoria; serotonin receptor; serotonin transporter;

    Abstract : Family and twin studies have been consistent in demonstrating that genetic factors are involved in the etiology of most major psychiatric disorders, as well as in various normal personality traits. Mostly due to the efficacy of serotonin-acting drugs, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), the neurotransmitter serotonin has been implicated in a variety of common psychiatric disorders, including depression, a spectrum of anxiety disorders, and premenstrual dysphoria; moreover, some studies have suggested that also personality is influenced by serotonin. 5. 10. On the influence of serotonin- and sex steroid-related genetic variation on mood, anxiety, personality, autism and transsexualism

    Author : Susanne Henningsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : serotonin; 5-HTTLPR; TPH2; 5-HT3; sex steroids; androgen receptor; estrogen receptor; genetics; gene-gene interaction; social phobia; anxiety; premenstrual dysphoric disorder; depression; personality; autism; transsexualism; amygdala; emotional perception; life events;

    Abstract : Background: The neurotransmitter serotonin has been related to mood and anxiety, and variation in genes that encode important members of the serotonergic system may hence affect mood- and anxiety-related traits. Sex steroids influence brain development, and variation in genes encoding androgen and estrogen receptors, or enzymes needed for sex steroid synthesis, may be of importance for both personality traits and risk for psychiatric disorders.
