  1. 1. Peripheral Vision Adaptive Optics and Psychophysics

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Robert Rosén; KTH.; [2013]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis is about our peripheral vision. Peripheral vision is poor compared to central vision, due to both neural and optical factors. The optical factors include astigmatism, defocus and higher order aberrations consisting mainly of coma. Neurally, the density of ganglion cells decreases towards the periphery, which limits the sampling density. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tactile Perception - Role of Physical Properties

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Lisa Skedung; KTH.; [2010]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Finger Friction; Skin Friction; Paper Friction; Friction Coefficient; Piezoelectric Force Sensor; Skin Tribology; Biotribology; Soft Tribology; Surface Roughness; Profilometry; Coated Paper; Uncoated Paper; Printing Paper; Magazine Paper; Tactile Perception; Psychophysics; Multidimensional Scaling; Magnitude Estimation; Paper Coarseness; Thermal Conductivity; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy.; MEDICINE Chemistry; MEDICIN Kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to interconnect human tactile perception with various physical properties of materials. Tactile perception necessitates contact and relative motion between the skin and the surfaces of interest. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sick of smells Empirical findings and a theoretical framework for chemical intolerance

    University dissertation from Umeå : Department of Psychology, Umeå University

    Author : Linus Andersson; Umeå universitet.; [2012]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Chemical Intolerance; Unexplained Medical Symptoms; Environmental Intolerance; Event-related potentials; functional magnetic resonance imaging; psychophysics; sensitization; habituation; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Chemical intolerance (CI) is a term that refers to the surprisingly common phenomenon of persons getting ill from everyday chemicals. Although seemingly similar to asthma and allergies, CI sufferers do not react to exposures with increased histamine release. READ MORE

  4. 4. Functional aspects of tactile directional sensibility

    University dissertation from Umeå : Department of Psychology, Umeå University

    Author : Helena Backlund; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; directional sensibility; hairy skin; hemispherectomy; postural control; glabrous skin; fMRI; psychophysics;

    Abstract : Tactile directional sensibility, i.e. the ability to tell the movement direction of a moving tactile stimulus, depends on the parallel processing of spatiotemporal information and information about changes in the pattern of skin tension. READ MORE

  5. 5. On Perceived Exertion and its Measurement

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Psykologiska institutionen

    Author : Elisabet Borg; Stockholms universitet.; [2007]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Perceptual scaling; psychophysics; Category-Ratio scale; perceived exertion; interindividual comparisons; SOCIAL SCIENCES Social sciences Psychology; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP Socialvetenskap Psykologi; psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : The general aim of the thesis is to answer questions on general and differential aspects of perceived exertion and on the measurement of its intensity variation. Overall perceived exertion is commonly treated as a unidemensional construct. This thesis also explores its multidimensional character. Four empirical studies are summarized (Study I-IV). READ MORE
