  1. 1. Anatomical and physiological aspects of anorectal dysfunction

    Author : Geert Morren; Anders Mellgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Anal canal; Anal-sphincter repair; Audit; Magnetic resonance imaging; Magnetic stimulation; Latency; Pelvic floor; Sacral roots; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Objective: To analyse the results of anal-sphincter repair; to examine the feasibility of motor latency measurements of the anal sphincter after magnetic sacral stimulation in healthy subjects, patients with a spinal cord injury and patients with faecal incontinence, using a new recording technique; to study, in the same 3 groups, the effects ofphasic magnetic sacral root stimulation on the anal sphincter and rectum; to describe normal, undisturbed anatomy of the anal canal and perianal structures in both men and nulliparous women using high-resolution phased array magnetic resonance imaging; to study pelvic floor movements in healthy volunteers of both sexes using a new instrument.Methods: Latencies were recorded with an intraanal, bipolar sponge electrode and an intrarectal ground electrode. 2. 2. Faecal incontinence : Aspects of diagnosis and treatment

    Author : Asbjörn Österberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Faecal incontinence; anorectal manovolumetry; high pressure zone profile; pudendal nerve terminal motor latency; fibre density; questionnaire; electrostimulation; levatorplasty; sphincteroplasty; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Rectal reservoir function and anal pressures were investigated using anorectal manovolumetry in 48 patients with faecal incontinence and in 25 control subjects. Resting and squeeze pressures were lower in patients (p... READ MORE

  3. 3. Sphincter injuries and anal incontinence after vaginal delivery : a clinical and physiological study

    Author : Jan Zetterström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Obstetric sphincter injury; anal sphincter defect; anal incontinence; perineal body; endoanal ultrasonography; anorectal manometry; pudendal nerve terminal motor latency;

    Abstract : Objective: To investigate the frequency and degree of anal incontinence after vaginal delivery in primiparous women, to determine risk factors for obstetric sphincter tears and to evaluate outcome of primary repair, to evaluate perineal body measurement (PBM) in patients with obstetric sphincter injuries, to study anal sphincter morphology and function before and after delivery, and to evaluate primiparous women who had sustained a sphincter tear or developed anal incontinence after delivery. Methods: Questionnaires regarding anal incontinence before pregnancy, at five and nine months after delivery were used. READ MORE
