  1. 6. T lymphocyte and NK cell function in pulmonary inflammation in sarcoidosis

    Author : Kianoosh Katchar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : T lymphocytes; cytokines; activation markers; chemokine receptors; T regulatory cells; sarcoidosis.;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is on the role of T lymphocytes and Natural Killer cells in sarcoidosis, which is an inflammatory interstitial pulmonary disorder of unknown etiology. An accumulation of CD4+ T helper cells in the lungs is a characteristic feature of this disease. READ MORE

  2. 7. Quantitative proteomic approaches for the analysis of human lung samples in pulmonary sarcoidosis

    Author : Ernesto Silva; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on the analysis of protein expression profiles from the airways of sarcoidosis patients using quantitative proteomics. Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology characterized by the presence of noncaseating granulomas in the affected organs. READ MORE

  3. 8. The blind spot : inflammatory pathways and specific antigens in clinical phenotypes of pulmonary sarcoidosis

    Author : Ylva Kaiser; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous multisystem disorder of unknown aetiology, primarily manifesting in the lungs. The disease appears in two forms, which are mainly distinguished based on clinical criteria; Löfgren's syndrome (LS) presents with acute onset, usually fever, active inflammation and characteristic symptoms such as bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy (BHL), erythema nodosum and/or ankle arthritis, but is also associated with spontaneous resolution and a good prognosis. 4. 9. Ureaplasma urealyticum induced pulmonary inflammation in the development of chronic lung disease of prematurity

    Author : Yinghua Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Chronic lung disease (CLD) of prematurity is a prolonged respiratory failure in very-lowbirthweight neonates. This disorder is multifactorial and associated with an early increase in the numbers of neutrophils and alveolar macrophages, together with. morphological abnormalities in epithelial and endothelial cells. 5. 10. Multimodal applications in medical technology that utilize Raman spectroscopy

    Author : Joel Wahl; Kerstin Ramser; Mikael Sjödahl; Thomas Bocklitz; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Raman spectroscopy; Preprocessing; Pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells; Brain tumors; Experimental Mechanics; Experimentell mekanik;

    Abstract : Biology can often be explained by structures and interactions between molecules. It is therefore of importance for medical sciences that the chemical reactions and molecular compositions of biological samples can be measured. The purpose of this thesis is twofold. READ MORE
