  1. 6. High Clay Content Cellulose Nanocomposites for Mechanical Performance and Fire Retardancy

    University dissertation from KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Lilian Medina; KTH.; [2019]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanocellulose; nanofibril; nanofiber; CNF; nanoplatelet; nanostructure; tactoid; montmorillonite; MTM; foam; aerogel; porosity; PVA; poly vinyl alcohol ; epoxy; moisture; biocomposite; biomaterial; biobased; flame; cone calorimetry; gas barrier; coating; film.; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Materials based on wood can offer sustainable alternatives to fossil-based plastics and composites, and show interesting mechanical properties. However, the issue of their flammability is generally unresolved. In this thesis, eco-friendly, fire retardant clay-cellulose nanofibril materials are investigated. READ MORE

  2. 7. Modeling and simulation of paper structure development

    University dissertation from Sweden : Mid Sweden University

    Author : Stefan B Lindström; [2008]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forming; Fibre; Paper; Fibre suspension; Paper structure; Simulation; Rheology;

    Abstract : A numerical tool has been developed for particle-level simulations of fibre suspension flows, particularly forming of the fibre network structure of paper sheets in the paper machine. The model considers inert fibres of various equilibrium shapes, and finite stiffness, interacting with each other through normal, frictional, and lubrication forces, and with the surrounding fluid medium through hydrodynamic forces. Abstract : Measurements of process variations and particle morphology are widely employed in the pulp and paper industry. Two techniques with high potential, infrared thermography and microparticle characterisation, are mainly used qualitatively. READ MORE

  4. 9. Analysing different technology pathways for the pulp and paper industry in a European energy systems perspective

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Johanna Jönsson; [2011]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; technology pathways; pulp and paper industry; energy market scenarios; biorefinery; kraft pulp mill; global CO2 emission;

    Abstract : For the pulp and paper industry (PPI), earlier research has shown that there are many technology pathways, proven and new, available for improvement of energy efficiency and additional sales of (new) products. Some pathways can only be implemented in kraft mills, e.g. black liquor gasification (BLG), but some can be implemented industry-wide, e. READ MORE
