1. Pulse oximetry : methodological considerations : experimental, in vitro and human investigations
Abstract : Pulse oximeters monitor non-invasively the haemoglobin oxygen saturation. Light of two specific wavelengths, red and infrared light, is shined through a tissue, usually the finger, and the intensity of the light transmitted is measured. Oxyhaemoglobin absorbs the light differently when compared to reduced haemoglobin. READ MORE

2. Measurement and Control of Attosecond Light Fields
Abstract : Attosecond pulses are used to study electron dynamics in atoms and molecules. In this thesis, schemes to control the generation of attosecond pulses and pulse-shaping techniques to compress the pulses are presented. Generation of attosecond pulses requires high intensity, which is reached by focusing a pulsed femtosecond laser. READ MORE

3. Scaling and Gating Attosecond Pulse Generation
Abstract : High-order harmonic generation (HHG) provides the basis for attosecond light sources delivering coherent pulses in the extreme ultraviolet spectral region. Such light sources are employed for a variety of applications within imaging, attosecond spectroscopy, and high-precision frequency metrology. READ MORE

4. A Numerical Study of Reacting Flows Using Finite Rate Chemistry
Abstract : Fossil fuels will remain the main source of energy for mankind in theforeseeable future. Heat released in combustion of fossil fuels is alwaysaccompanied by emission of undesired pollutants. Environmental concernshave led to stringent emission rules for combustion industry speciallyfor reducing the amount of NOx production. READ MORE

5. Spectral analysis of the heart rate variability : a methodological study
Abstract : Heart rate and other cardiovascular variables are not steady but fluctuate over time. The evolution of computer technology the last 2 decades has made detailed analysis of the fluctuations possible and has focused the attention to the information content of the variability. READ MORE
