  1. 11. Modelling of strain tensors in cardiac kinematics

    Author : Katarina Kindberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The heart wall consists of three distinct layers: the inner endocardium, the middle myocardium and the outer epicardium. The myocardium is the functional tissue that endows the heart with its ability to pump blood, and consists primarily of locally parallel muscle fibers. The orientation of these muscle fibers change with position in the wall. READ MORE

  2. 12. Control factors of the marine nitrogen cycle : The role of meiofauna, macrofauna, oxygen and aggregates

    Author : Stefano Bonaglia; Patrick Crill; Volker Brüchert; Per Hall; Chritoph Humborg; Risgaard-Petersen Nils; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nitrogen cycle; denitrification; DNRA; anammox; anoxia; hypoxia; eutrophication; meiofauna; macrofauna; aggregates; cyanobacteria; Baltic Sea; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Abstract : The ocean is the most extended biome present on our planet. Recent decades have seen a dramatic increase in the number and gravity of threats impacting the ocean, including discharge of pollutants, cultural eutrophication and spread of alien species. READ MORE

  3. 13. Modeling and Performance Analysis of Alternative Heat Exchangers for Heavy Vehicles

    Author : Wamei Lin; Värmeöverföring; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Countercurrent flow; Graphite foam; Heat exchanger; Thermal performance; Computational fluid dynamics;

    Abstract : Cross flow heat exchangers made from aluminum are common as radiators in vehicles. However, due to the increasing power requirement and the limited available space in vehicles, it is extremely difficult to increase the size of heat exchangers (HEXs) placed in the front of vehicles. 4. 14. Journal bearing design, lubrication and operation for enhanced performance

    Author : Gregory F Simmons; Rob Dwyer-Joyce; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : The increasing introduction of intermittent power sources combined with the de-regulation of electricity markets has led to increased instability in the electrical grid. This has led to increased start-up and shutdown of regulating power sources such as hydro-electric power plants and operation at non-ideal operating states both of which increase the wear and tear on machines. 5. 15. Upconversion in Er doped silica : - characterization and modeling

    Author : Dmitry Khoptyar; Bozena Jaskorszynska; Anders Bjarklev; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik; Electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : Further increase of erbium concentrations in Er-doped amplifiers and lasers is needed for the design of efficient, reliable, compact and cost-effective components for telecommunications and other photonic applications. However, this is hindered by Er concentration dependent loss mechanism known as upconversion. READ MORE
