  1. 1. Enhancement of Volatile Fatty Acid Production from Dairy Wastewater

    Author : Merve Atasoy; Zeynep Cetecioglu; Juan Lema; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Volatile fatty acid; mixed culture fermentation; pure culture; bioaugmentation; bacterial community; Flyktiga fettsyror; jäsning med blandkultur; renkultur; bioaugmentering; bakteriesamhälle; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Resource recovery from waste-streams is a highly promising approach to meet with urbanization and modernization consequences. Rapid human population growth, expanding industrialization and excessive consumption of resources lead to increasing demand for raw materials and energy sources, and an escalation of greenhouse gas emission. 2. 2. Novel Culture Strategies and Signal Transduction Pathways of Pluripotent Stem Cells

    Author : Sara Pijuan Galitó; Cecilia Annerén; Lena Kjellén; Christopher Ward; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pluripotent stem cells; Inter-alpha inhibitor; culture method; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Abstract : Pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) can self-renew indefinitely in culture while maintaining their capacity to differentiate into any cell type of an organism, thus offering novel sources for drug screening, in vitro disease modelling, and cell replacement therapies. However, due to their sensitive nature, many PSC lines are still cultured using undefined components such as serum or serum-derived components, on either feeder cells or complex protein mixes such as Matrigel or gelatine. 3. 3. Hydrogen Production by Caldicellulosiruptor species: The Organism and the Metabolism

    Author : Ahmad Zeidan; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Extreme thermophile; Caldicellulosiruptor; Biohydrogen; Co-culture; Coexistence; Hydrogen tolerance; Genome-scale reconstruction; In silico; Flux balance analysis;

    Abstract : Hydrogen holds a great promise as an efficient and clean future energy carrier due to its high energy density and lack of pollutant generation. Anaerobic degradation of organic substrates by heterotrophic microorganisms enables the production of hydrogen from a wide spectrum of agricultural feedstock and waste products. READ MORE

  4. 4. Inflammation and ischemia in the developing brain - modifying effects of hyperoxia and adrenoceptor activation

    Author : Tina Markus; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adrenergic; preconditioning; excitotoxicity; tissue culture; hyperoxia; resuscitation; asphyxia; sensitization; TNF-alpha; inflammatory mediators; hippocampus; neonate;

    Abstract : Inflammation and ischemia are common causes of perinatal brain damage. Ventilation with pure oxygen has previously been the prime choice during resuscitation following fetal asphyxia. READ MORE

  5. 5. Insights in Lean values: Exploring links to sustainable development

    Author : Anna Mårtensson; Kristen Snyder; Pernilla Ingelsson; Yvonne Lagrosen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lean; sustainable development; organisational development; organisational culture; values; Lean; hållbar utveckling; värderingar; organisationsutveckling; organisationskultur;

    Abstract : The Quality Management initiative Lean is a popular method used by organisations to engage in organisational development. The Lean philosophy is grounded in numerous values. The organisations must implement and apply these values to achieve the desired results. READ MORE
