1. Studies of platelet signalling and endothelial cell responses using unique synthetic drugs
Abstract : Haemostasis is a complex and tightly regulated process which protects us from bleeding. Platelets are essential for maintained haemostasis. Under normal conditions platelets are calmed by antithrombotic substances release by the endothelium. During vascular injury, the platelets will activate and form a haemostatic plug to prevent bleeding. READ MORE

2. Metabolic regulation and anticancer drug resistance in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Abstract : Cancer is a malignant neoplastic tissue. The pyrimidine analogue 5-fluorouracil is an anticancer drug used against several types of cancer. It owes its specificity against neoplasms due to the higher rate of nutrient uptake, RNA and DNA synthesis, and in particular the higher rate of nucleobase scavenging and salvage of neoplastic cells. 3. Structural Studies of Glutamine Synthetases – Towards the Development of Novel Antitubercular Agents
Abstract : Glutamine synthetase (GS) plays an important role in nitrogen metabolism, where it catalyzes the ATP-dependent condensation of glutamate and ammonia to yield glutamine. Recent studies showed the importance of M. tuberculosis GS (MtGS) for growth and survival of the bacterium, and demonstrated its potential as a drug target. READ MORE

4. Novel treatment of African trypanosomiasis
Abstract : Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) or Sleeping Sickness is fatal if untreated. Current drugs used for the treatment of HAT have difficult treatment regimens and unacceptable toxicity related issues. READ MORE

5. T cells in patients with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) and multiple myeloma (MM) : an immunological study
Abstract : There are several lines of evidence that T cells in patients with Multiple Myeloma (MM) and B-cell Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (B-CLL) are phenotypically aberrant. The overall aim of this thesis was to study T cells with a focus on TCR-signaling pathways in these two B-cell malignancies. The role of T-cells in B-CLL etiology was also examined. READ MORE
