  1. 1. Perplexing Protein Puzzles

    Author : Stina Lindman; Biofysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; calbindin D9k; split-GFP; protein G B1; pKa-values; protein reconstitution; Electrostatic interactions; protein stability; protein denaturation; heteronuclear NMR; pH titrations;

    Abstract : Protein structure and stability are inherent in the amino acid sequence and governed by non-covalent interactions. The cooperation between forces is, however, perplexing and not well understood. In order to elucidate and predict protein folding and stability, detailed studies of non-covalent interactions are required. READ MORE

  2. 2. Puzzles in Social Dilemmas: Social Preferences, Norms, and Magical Thinking

  3. 3. Remittances, regions and risk sharing

    Author : Kristin Bernard Magnusson; Handelshögskolan i Stockholm; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis in economics includes three self-contained papers united by a common theme: the importance of economic fluctuations within and between countries for capital flows and risk sharing inside and across national borders. The first two papers study the determinants of workers’ remittances, as well as the consequences for macroeconomic volatility for the countries that receive them, using econometric methods and a general equilibrium model. 4. 4. Theoretical Study on Chemical Structures and Stability of Molecules in Metallic Junctions

    Author : Wei Hu; Yi Luo; Lasse Jensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SERS; IETS; Interface; Chemical Stability; Teoretisk kemi och biologi; Theoretical Chemistry and Biology;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we focus on the structural identification of the interface using surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and inelastic electron tunnelling scattering (IETS). Two different molecular junctions, namely gold/ trans-1,2-bis (4-pyridyl) ethylene/gold junction and gold/4,4'-bipyridine/gold junctions in various conditions were studied and the corresponding configurations were determined. 5. 5. Constitutional rules and party goals in coalition formation : an analysis of winning minority governments in Sweden

    Author : Torbjörn Bergman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Coalition theory; government formation; winning minority governments; support party; parliamentary democracy; constitutional rules; constitutional design; new institutionalism; multiple party goals; expected utility model; bargaining position;

    Abstract : This study starts with two theoretical puzzles within the rational choice oriented literature on government formation in parliamentary democracies: the relative importance of constitutional rules and the existence of multiple party goals. From these puzzles stem the research questions that guide the study: First, what is the theoretical and empirical link between constitutional arrangements (including rules) and party goals? Second, what are the goals of political parties and how can these be studied? Third, relative to the goals of political parties and other constitutional arrangements, what is the importance of government formation rules for the empirical record of minority and majority governments?Coalition theory provides the theoretical starting point from which the research questions stem.
