1. Synthetic studies of nitrogen containing heterocycles, particularly pyrazole and benzotriazine derivatives
Abstract : This thesis will mainly focus on the chemistry of nitrogen containing heterocyclic compounds, particularly pyrazole and benzotriazine and related ring systems to these compounds. The first part includes a short introduction to biologically important compounds as well as a description of reactivity and chemistry of benzo[c]pyrazole (indazole) and its derivatives. READ MORE

2. The Multifunctional HnRNP A1 Protein in the Regulation of the Cyp2a5 Gene : Connecting Transcriptional and Posttranscriptional Processes
Abstract : The mouse xenobiotic-inducible Cyp2a5 gene is both transcriptionally and posttranscriptionally regulated. One of the most potent Cyp2a5 inducers, the hepatotoxin pyrazole, increases the CYP2A5 mRNA half-life. READ MORE

3. Structure-Function Relationships in RuII Complexes with Unconventional Ligands: Photophysical and Photochemical Studies
Abstract : The rich photophysics, photochemistry and electrochemistry of RuII complexes have attracted intense research interest in widely disparate fields. A large portion of the studied and applied complexes are derived from the archetypical [Ru(bpy)3]2+ (bpy is 2,2’-bipyridine), which absorbs in the visible region, displays a long lived (~1 μs), emissive metal-to-ligand charge transfer state, and shows reversible electrochemistry in both the ground and excited state. 4. Roles of ERα and ERβ in Normal and Disrupted Sex Differentiation in Japanese Quail
Abstract : Exposure to xenoestrogens during development has been shown to impair sexual differentiation in various species. The major aim of this thesis was to elucidate the respective roles of the two estrogen receptors ERα and ERβ in normal and disrupted differentiation of sex organs and copulatory behavior in the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica). 5. Half-sandwich complexes with amino-quinoline ligands - synthesis, antiplasmodial and antimycobacterial activities
Abstract : Malaria and tuberculosis are two of the most deadly infectious diseases that exist. Both diseases predominantly affect the most vunerable parts of society. Additionally the treatment of both diseases are complicated by growing and spreading resistance against the drugs used to treat them. READ MORE
