11. Development of a new PNA analogue as a potential antisense drug and tool for life-science studies
Abstract : The work described in this thesis focuses on applying synthetic organic chemistry methods (supported by modem synthesizers and analytical techniques) for the preparation of peptides and modified nucleic acids in order to affect certain properties in these biomolecules, which can lead to their application as drugs and/or tools for life sciences studies. 12. Synthesis and Evaluation of Photoactive Pyridine Complexes for Electron Transfer Studies and Photoelectrochemical Applications
Abstract : In this thesis, the preparation of new photoactive substances containing mono- and bipyridines coordinated to ruthenium is presented together with initial evaluations of their photoelectrochemical and photophysical properties. Complexes of the type Ru(bpy)2(4-X-py)2 (X = SH, COOH) were prepared and used in Grätzel-type solar cells based on ZnO. READ MORE

13. Studies of ester formation on a cellulose matrix
Abstract : In this work a model system has been developed to quantitatively study esterification of cellulosic material during drying and heating in which solid-state conditions can be said to predominate. The formation of ester cross-links in cellulosic or lignocellulosic composite materials during drying and heating is of interest for production of paper and wood composite boards, for wood modification and in giving cotton materials improved characteristics.
