16. Asymmetric Formation and Isomerization of Three-Membered Rings : Catalyst Development and Evaluation
Abstract : Enantiopure α-amino acid derivatives were prepared using a protocol which allows for highly controlled regio- and chemoselectivity in the hydrogenation/ hydrogenolysis of aza-Diels-Alder adducts. One of the resulting α-amino esters, (1S,3R,4R)-2-azabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester, was utilized further as a catalyst precursor. READ MORE

17. Polymer Bound Water-Soluble Metal Phosphine Complexes-Preparation, Characterisation and Catalytic Application
Abstract : Four new water-soluble phosphines have been prepared by utilising water-soluble polymers as charge carrying units. Coupling of methyl-4-(diphenylphosphino)-benzyl-amine or 4-diphenylphosphino benzaldehyde to poly-acrylic acid and poly-ethylene imine, respectively, afford the ligands PAA-PNH and PEI-PNH. READ MORE

18. Development of New Chiral Bicyclic Ligands : Applications in Catalytic Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation, Epoxidations, and Epoxide Rearrangements
Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis and application of new chiral bicyclic ligands and their application in asymmetric catalysis. The studies involved: [i] The development of novel chiral bicyclic amino sulfur ligands and their use in transfer hydrogenation. READ MORE

19. Palladium-Catalysed Couplings in Organic Synthesis : Exploring Catalyst-Presenting Strategies and Medicinal Chemistry Applications
Abstract : Palladium-catalysed coupling reactions have been embraced by synthetic chemists as one of the preferred means for smooth formation of new carbon-carbon bonds: a truly ubiquitous methodology of synthesizing complex molecules. This thesis describes the study of a series of palladium(0)-catalysed C2-arylations of a 1-cyclopentenyl ether, equipped with a chiral (S)-N-methyl-pyrrolidine auxiliary. 20. Studies on the activation of cytosolic phospholipase A2 and 15-lipoxygenase-1
Abstract : Arachidonic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid, which has four double bonds and belongs to the omega-6 family of fatty acids. Even if it can be formed in humans from one essential fatty acid, the linoleic acid, most of the arachidonic acid in the body comes with the intake of food. READ MORE
