  1. 1. Measurements of Function in Children with Cerebral Palsy

    Author : Eva Nordmark; Barns och familjers hälsa; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kinesitherapy; Physical medicine; epidemiology; function; Cerebral palsy; measurement; children; revalidation; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ;

    Abstract : Cerebral palsy (CP) is a term for a group of conditions associated with motor disabilities, that are very heterogeneous, i.e. symptoms, severity, associated impairments, functional outcome and needs. The overall purpose of this thesis was to study the prevalence and gross motor function and to evaluate and adapt measurements in children with CP. READ MORE

  2. 2. The relevance and assessment of limb muscle function in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

    Author : Erik Frykholm; André Nyberg; Ann Sörlin; Per Stål; Thomas Sandström; Lars Nyberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; COPD; lower and upper limb activities; quadriceps function; reliability; association; physiotherapy; fysioterapi;

    Abstract : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease that is characterised by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation. Consequences beyond the airways and lungs are common, and include limb muscle dysfunction. READ MORE

  3. 3. Rehabilitation and Evaluation after Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury : Function, Stability and Postural Control

    Author : Marketta Henriksson (Lysholm); Gunnar Németh; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Traditionally, the success of treatment after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury has been judged from the recovery of muscle strength and knee range of motion (ROM), but also from the static knee stability after ACL reconstruction. However, since the sensory role of the ACL and surrounding tissues for the functional stability of the knee has been documented, the measurement of proprioceptive function related to knee stability is likely to become important in this evaluation. 4. 4. Chronic anterior cruciate ligament tear : knee function and knee extensor muscle size, morphology and function before and after surgical reconstruction

    Author : Lars-Gunnar Elmqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; knee joint; ligaments; articular; surgery; muscle fibre; isokinetics; exercise therapy; muscular atrophy; electromyography;

    Abstract : Knee function was evaluated by knee score, activity level, clinical findings and performance tests, muscle size by computerized tomography (CT), morphology by light (LM) and electron microscopy (EM), muscle function by electromyography (EMG) and isokinetic performance in 29 patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Preoperatively CT disclosed a significant mean atrophy of the quadriceps and nonsignificant changes of the other muscle areas of the injured leg. READ MORE

  5. 5. Knee function, Physical Activity and Perceived Health after Meniscectomy in the Middle-aged

    Author : Ylva Ericsson; Enheten för led- och mjukvävnadsforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; physical activity; dGEMRIC; self efficacy of knee function; functional performance; muscle strength; meniscectomy; middle-aged; health-related quality of life; BMI; functional exercise;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to explore the impact of meniscal injury and meniscectomy on joint and muscle function, physical activity and perceived health in middle-age subjects and to evaluate the effect of a functional exercise program. Male and female post meniscectomy patients participated in Studies I-IV (n=45 in Studies I-III, n=99 in Study IV) and Study IV also included 94 controls. READ MORE
