1. An Institutional Analysis of Insurance Regulation - The Case of Sweden
Abstract : The thesis is a broad attempt to analyse economic forces behind, and economic rationales for, institutions that constrain the organisation and operation of insurance companies. The basic task is threefold: (i) to develop institutional theory by providing an outline of a transaction cost explanation of the origin of, and the rationale for, institutions that constrain the organisation and the operation of insurance organisations; (ii) to apply our institutional theory and explain recorded institutional structures in order to make them intelligible with respect to the contractual context in which they have been nested; and (iii) to appraise the explanatory power of our institutional theory with respect to conventional economic theories on the economics of public regulation. 2. Regulating Vessel-Source Air Pollution - Standard-Setting in the Regulation of SOx Emissions
Abstract : Emissions of sulphur oxides (SOx) cause considerable global environmental and human health impacts including acidification, climate change, and increased premature deaths in human populations due to serious heart and lung diseases. Although recently revised regulations in MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI are expected to decrease SOx emissions from ships, it is clear that these regulations will need further development. READ MORE

3. The interactome of the yeast mitochondrial ribosome : Organization of mitochondrial post-transcriptional regulation, membrane protein insertion and quality control
Abstract : The proteins found in mitochondria originate from two different genetic systems. Most mitochondrial proteins are synthesized in the cytosol and post-translationally imported into the organelle. However, a small subset of mitochondrial proteins is encoded in an organelle-resident genome. READ MORE

4. Risk-based methods for reliability investments in electric power distribution systems
Abstract : Society relies more and more on a continuous supply of electricity. However, while underinvestments in reliability lead to an unacceptable number of power interruptions, overinvestments result in too high costs for society. READ MORE

5. Simulation in university chemistry education : cognitive and affective aspects

Closed-ended tasks that provided a high degree of structure, i. READ MORE
