  1. 11. Numerical methods for mapping of multiple QTL

    Author : Kajsa Ljungberg; Sverker Holmgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Beräkningsvetenskap; Scientific Computing;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns numerical methods for mapping of multiple quantitative trait loci, QTL. Interactions between multiple genetic loci influencing important traits, such as growth rate in farm animals and predisposition to cancer in humans, make it necessary to search for several QTL simultaneously. 2. 12. Road Ecology for Environmental Assessment

    Author : Mårten Karlson; Berit Balfors; Ulla Mörtberg; Jo Treweek; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Roads; Railways; Biodiversity; Environmental Assessment; GIS; Decision Support; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : Transport infrastructure is closely linked to several politically relevant sustainability issues, and since 1985 a formalized environmental assessment process is linked to planning and construction of new roads and railways in the EU (EU directives 85/337/EEC and 2001/42). The aim of the environmental assessment process is to think in advance; to identify, predict and evaluate significant environmental changes resulting from a proposed activity, in order to adjust the proposed activity accordingly and to avoid unnecessary and unexpected consequences. 3. 13. A real-time simulation-based optimisation environment for industrial scheduling

    Author : Marcus Frantzén; Philip Moore; David Stockton; Amos Ng; Stephen Newman; Riham Khalil; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Scheduling system; Simulation; Scheduling; simulation-based optimisation; Technology; Teknik; Production and Automation Engineering; Produktion och automatiseringsteknik;

    Abstract : In order to cope with the challenges in industry today, such as changes in product diversity and production volume, manufacturing companies are forced to react more flexibly and swiftly. Furthermore, in order for them to survive in an ever-changing market, they also need to be highly competitive by achieving near optimal efficiency in their operations. READ MORE

  4. 14. Delection mapping of human 3p in major epithelial types of cancer and fine localization of candidate tumor suppressor genes

    Author : Jian Liu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Tumor suppressor gene; epithelial carcinoma; human chromosome 3p;

    Abstract : Allele loss and deletion mapping using microsatellite markers and the detection of homozygous deletions represented until now the most powerful method to localize potential TSGs. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) involving several chromosome 3p regions accompanied by chromosome 3p deletions are detected in almost 100% of renal cell carcinoma (RCC), small (SCLCs) and more than 90% of non-small (NSCLC) cell lung cancers. 5. 15. Mitochondrial DNA in Sensitive Forensic Analysis

    Author : Martina Nilsson; Marie Allen; Ulf Gyllensten; Antti Sajantila; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Genetics; Forensic genetics; Mitochondrial DNA; HVI HVII; Nuclear DNA; Quantification; Real-time PCR; Immobilised SSO probe assay; Pyrosequencing; Discrimination power; Coding region; Mixtures; Genetik;

    Abstract : Genetic profiling is commonly performed on the autosomes using multiple DNA markers. Although routine forensic DNA analysis is robust and based on reliable technologies, samples with degraded or limited amounts of DNA often fail. In these cases, the analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) can be very valuable due to the high copy number per cell. READ MORE
