  1. 11. Radiation and matter: how do they play with each other?

    Author : Davide Mancusi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heavy ions; models; transport codes; Boltzmann equation; Monte Carlo; radioprotection in space; radiotherapy; nuclear reactions;

    Abstract : The propagation of radiation is affected by the presence of matter; at the same time, the physicochemical properties of matter are modified by the passage of radiation. The interplay of radiation and matter is of crucial importance in many modern applications: accelerated heavy ions, in particular, can be used in radiotherapeutical treatments of some cancers; moreover, they are present in the space radiation environment and represent a serious threat to the health of spaceship crews and to the functionality of electronic equipment on board. 2. 12. Some Problems in Quantified Security

    Author : Vilhelm Verendel; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computer security; quantified risk; quantified security; risk behavior; operational risk; security metrics; information security; survey; quantitative models; decision-making; risk perception;

    Abstract : This thesis contains work related to quantitative representation and analysis of computer and information security. The ability to accurately describe security using quantitative methods could offer better control and evaluation of security in operational settings. READ MORE

  3. 13. US Equity REIT Returns and Digitalization

    Author : Birger Axelsson; Han-Suck Song; Herman Donner; Peter Palm; KTH; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; REITs; quantitative easing; quantitative tightening; deep learning; LSTM; REITs; kvantitativa lättnader; kvantitativ åtstramning; djupinlärning; LSTM; Fastigheter och byggande; Real Estate and Construction Management;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis is a collection of two essays that utilize time-series econometric methods in real estate finance. The first essay applies econometric modelling on Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) index returns, focusing on estimating the effect of the quantitative easing (QE) and quantitative tightening (QT) programmes on U.S. READ MORE

  4. 14. Holocene Climate in Central and Southern Sweden : Quantitative Reconstructions from Fossil Data

    Author : Karin Antonsson; Keith Bennett; Heikki Seppä; Andy Lotter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Quaternary geology; pollen analysis; climate reconstructions; transfer functions; vegetation dynamics; Sweden; Kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : In quantitative palaeoecology modern species-environmental relationships can be statistically modelled, and recent development has made the calibration models more statistically robust. These models are used to transform fossil assemblages to quantitative estimates of past environmental conditions. READ MORE

  5. 15. Characterizing Chromatography Media : NMR-based Approaches

    Author : Fredrik Elwinger; István Furó; Stéphane Viel; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chromatography; nuclear magnetic resonance; NMR; self-diffusion; magic-angle spinning; quantitative; distribution coefficient; pore size; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Liquid chromatography is an essential technique in manufacturing biopharmaceuticals where it is used on all scales from analytical applications in R&D to full-scale production. In chromatography the target molecule, typically a protein, is separated and purified from other components and contaminants. READ MORE
