1. Ontogeny and Population Biology of a Sex-Limited Colour Polymorphism
Abstract : This study has involved investigation of number of populations of the damselfly Ischnura elegans over several years, looking at frequency changes over time, morphological differences between the sexes and the morphs, differences in growth rate and development time, differences in fecundity between the morphs, and genetic differentiation between populations. I. READ MORE

2. Image-based quantitative infrared analysis and microparticle characterisation for pulp and paper applications
Abstract : Measurements of process variations and particle morphology are widely employed in the pulp and paper industry. Two techniques with high potential, infrared thermography and microparticle characterisation, are mainly used qualitatively. READ MORE

3. Causes and consequences of quantitative trait variation for reproductive performance in hole nesting birds
Abstract : This thesis examines the causes and consequences of environmental variability and individual morphological differences on breeding success and survival in three hole nesting birds. An analysis of directional and stabilising natural selection in Collared Flycatchers (Ficedula albicollis) suggested that forces of selection acting on quantitative traits are weak and cannot explain the observed sexual size dimorphism (SSD) in this species. 4. The morphology of polyfluorene : fullerene blend films for photovoltaic applications
Abstract : Polymer photovoltaic systems whose photoactive layer is a blend of a semiconducting polymer with a fullerene derivative in a bulk heterojunction configuration are amongst the most successful organic photovoltaic devices nowadays. The three-dimensional organization in these layers (the morphology) plays a crucial role in the performance of the devices. READ MORE

5. Deep Neural Networks and Image Analysis for Quantitative Microscopy
Abstract : Understanding biology paves the way for discovering drugs targeting deadly diseases like cancer, and microscopy imaging is one of the most informative ways to study biology. However, analysis of large numbers of samples is often required to draw statistically verifiable conclusions. READ MORE
