1. Quantum and Ballistic Nanodevices
Abstract : In this thesis, electron transport in quantum and ballistic devices was studied. The devices studied here were quantum wires, planar quantum dots, ballistic rectifiers, artificial functional materials, and three-terminal ballistic junctions. The possible application of such devices in the future nanoelectronics was also investigated. READ MORE

2. Lateral Superlattices in Commensurate Magnetic Fields: Electronic Structure, Transport and Optical Properties
Abstract : The present thesis is devoted to the theoretical study of two-dimensional electron systems moving in a modulated lateral periodic potential and a competing perpendicular magnetic field. The three introductory chapters offer a brief exposition of the basic issues in this area -- the description of the electron motion in a prependicular magnetic field, the group of magnetic translations and the commensurability phenomena -- at an elementary level. 3. MOVPE Growth and Characterization of Low-Dimensional III-V Semiconductor Structures
Abstract : Metalorganic vapour phase epitaxy is used for growth of low-dimensional III-V semiconductor structures. The roughness of heterointerfaces in GaAs/GaInP quantum well structures is studied by photoluminescence emission from extremely narrow quantum wells. READ MORE

4. Fabrication of Low-Dimensional Structures in III-V Semiconductors
Abstract : The thesis presents studies on the processing technology and the characterization of nanometer-sized and low-dimensional structures in III-V semiconductors. Two major approaches are described: 1) the combination of aerosol technology and plasma etching for the fabrication of quantum dots (QDs) in InP-based materials and 2) the use of high-resolution electron beam lithography and plasma or wet chemical etching to make quantum well wires (QWWs) in both GaAs and InP-based structures. 5. Silicon Nanowire Based Electronic Devices for Sensing Applications
Abstract : Silicon nanowire (SiNW) based electronic devices fabricated with a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) compatible process have wide-range and promising applications in sensing area. These SiNW sensors own high sensitivity, low-cost mass production possibility, and high integration density. READ MORE
