11. Quantization and Noise-Shaped Coding for High Efficiency Transmitter Architectures
Abstract : Three driving parameters in the development of transmitter technologies for wireless communication today is: energy efficiency, flexibility and footprint reduction. This thesis investigates the use of 1-bit oversampled signal representation, mainly as a power efficiency enhancement technique for the transmitter, but also as a path toward reduced footprint and increased flexibility. 12. Engineering Epitaxial Graphene for Quantum Metrology
Abstract : Quantum resistance metrology deals both with the precise and accurate measurement of electrical resistance, by utilizing the quantum hall effect (QHE) in two-dimensional electron gases (2DEGs) such as those based on gallium arsenide (GaAs). Due to the unique properties of graphene, and specifically epitaxial graphene grown on silicon carbide (SiC/G), quantum Hall resistance (QHR) standards based on graphene perform better in a wider parameter space (temperature, current and magnetic field) than conventional semiconducting materials. 13. Power Control in Cellular Radio Systems
Abstract : The primary goal of cellular radio systems, is to provide communication services to a large number of mobile users. Due to the rapid expansion of the market in this area, the available resources have to be used efficiently. READ MORE

14. Fabrication of Low-Dimensional Structures in III-V Semiconductors
Abstract : The thesis presents studies on the processing technology and the characterization of nanometer-sized and low-dimensional structures in III-V semiconductors. Two major approaches are described: 1) the combination of aerosol technology and plasma etching for the fabrication of quantum dots (QDs) in InP-based materials and 2) the use of high-resolution electron beam lithography and plasma or wet chemical etching to make quantum well wires (QWWs) in both GaAs and InP-based structures. 15. From Noise-Shaped Coding to Energy Efficiency - One bit at the time
Abstract : Three parameters that drive the research and development of future RF transmitter technologies for high speed wireless communication today are energy efficiency, flexibility and reduction of the physical footprint. This thesis treats the use of single-bit quantization in conjunction with a method called Noise-Shaped Coding (NSC), as an enabler for these parameters, foremost in terms of energy efficiency.
