  1. 11. Interactions on the edge of a quantum spin Hall insulator

    Author : Anders Ström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; topological insulators; quantum spin Hall effect; low-dimensional physics; bosonization; renormalization group;

    Abstract : Effects from electron-electron interactions on the edge of a quantum spin Hall insulator are studied using bosonisation and renormalisation group methods. First, a quantum spin Hall device with a point contact connecting two of its edges is considered. READ MORE

  2. 12. Electron Transport in Low Dimensional Systems

    Author : Peter Ramvall; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; high mobility; low-dimensional structures; III-V semiconductors; quantum wells; heterojunctions; quantum Hall effect; edge channels; Shubnikov-de Haas effect; alloy-disorder scattering; Y-branch switch; two dimensional electron gas; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1996:Ramvall; Physics; spin splitting; mag;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of experimental studies of transport properties in high mobility two dimensional electron gases (2DEGs). Two material systems are used, an AlGaAs/GaAs heterojunction and a GaInAs/InP quantum well. READ MORE

  3. 13. Theoretical Studies of Spin-Dependent Quantum Phenomena in Semiconductor Nanostructures

    Author : Patrik Brusheim; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zitterbewegung.; spin Hall effect; spintronics; Spin; quantum transport;

    Abstract : The study of spin transport has emerged at the forefront of condensed matter physics during the last decade. Much of the interest has undoubtedly been sparked by the advent of the spintronics paradigm and the idea of creating novel electronic devices based on the spin degree of freedom of the carriers. 4. 14. Collective Electron Dynamics in Mesoscopic Systems

    Author : Oleksandr Zazunov; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Andreev reflection; Josephson effect; qubit; composite fermions; Andreev levels; resonant tunneling; superconductivity; high-T c superconductors; quantum point contact; fractional quantum Hall effect;

    Abstract : This work is devoted to a theoretical investigation of collective electron dynamics in low dimensional materials and mesoscopic structures. A common feature of these studies is the focus on the properties of the low energy dynamics of conduction electrons. One class of studied materials is the high-Tc superconductor Nd2CuO4 and related compounds. READ MORE

    Abstract : Today’s digitalized society relies on the advancement of silicon (Si) Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) technology, but the limitations of down-scaling and the rapidly increasing demand for added functionality that is not easily achieved in Si, have pushed efforts to monolithically 3D-integrate III-V devices above the Si-CMOS technology. In addition, the demand for increased computational power and handling of vast amounts of data is rapidly increasing. READ MORE
