1. Optical Studies of Single Quantum Dots
Abstract : This thesis presents spectroscopic studies of single self-assembled InP quantum dots (QDs). The electronic properties of these QDs have been studied by photoluminescence (PL) and scanning tunnelling luminescence (STL). The QDs were grown in the Stranski-Krastanow mode and were embedded in GaInP. READ MORE

2. Theory of electronic structure and transport in heterostructure nanowires
Abstract : Today, semi-conductor nanowires can be grown with very high precision, using epitaxy. This allows for studies of new nanowire-based quantum devices, likely to be part of novel quantum technologies in the future. This thesis concerns nanostructures based on InAs nanowires. READ MORE

3. Optical spectroscopy of InGaAs quantum dots
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with optical studies of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) in the InGaAs material system. It is shown that for self-assembled InAs QDs, the interaction with the surrounding GaAs barrier and the InAs wetting layer (WL) in particular, has a very large impact on their optical properties. 4. InAS Quantum Dots for Laser Applications and Pedogogical, Gender, and Multicultural Aspects in Engineering Education
Abstract : This thesis builds on new cross-disciplinary research between engineering and educational sciences. Recently, two other theses that combine research in physics and education (Åke Ingerman, 2002, and Tom Adawi, 2002) have been completed in Sweden. This thesis consolidates a trend that can benefit both disciplines. READ MORE

5. Carrier dynamics in semiconductor quantum dots
Abstract : This thesis presents results of time-resolved photoluminescence experiments conducted on several different self-assembled InGaAs/GaAs and InAs/GaAs semiconductor quantum dot (QD) structures. Depending on the application in mind, different structural, electronic or optical properties have a different weight of importance. READ MORE
