21. Quantum Chemical Studies of Chemotherapeutic Drug Cisplatin : Activation and Binding to DNA
Abstract : The serendipitous discovery of the potent cytotoxic properties of cisplatin brought about a revolution in the treatment of certain types of cancer, but almost fifty years later, there still remain unknown areas in the chemistry of cisplatin. There are questions regarding which form of the drug reaches its DNA target, or why certain DNA sequences are more preferred than others for reaction with cisplatin. READ MORE

22. Topics on D-branes and Holography
Abstract : We discuss various aspects of D-branes in string theory and holography in string theory and loop quantum gravity. One way to study D-branes is from a microscopic perspective, using conformal field theory techniques. For example, we investigate the question of how D-branes can be introduced into orbifolded theories. READ MORE

23. Torn, Spun and Chopped : Various Limits of String Theory
Abstract : For the first time in the history of physics we stand in front of a theory that might actually serve as a unification of it all - string theory. It provides a self-consistent framework for gravity and quantum mechanics, which naturally incorporates matter and gauge interactions of the type seen in the standard model. READ MORE

24. Quasiparticles in the Quantum Hall Effect
Abstract : The fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE), discovered in 1982 in a two-dimensional electron system, has generated a wealth of successful theory and new concepts in condensed matter physics, but is still not fully understood. The possibility of having nonabelian quasiparticle statistics has recently attracted attention on purely theoretical grounds but also because of its potential applications in topologically protected quantum computing. 25. Gaps, Traps and Lattices - Correlations in Small Quantum Systems
Abstract : This dissertation investigates properties of two-dimensional many-body systems. Studies are performed using the Spin-Density Functional Theory with the Local Spin-Density Approximation, and numerical exact diagonalization. READ MORE
