1. Stringed along or caught in a loop? : Philosophical reflections on modern quantum gravity research
Abstract : A number of philosophical questions, all connected to modern research in quantum gravity, are discussed in this dissertation. The goal of research in quantum gravity is to find a quantum theory for gravitation; the other fundamental forces are already understood in terms of quantum physics. 2. Quest for quantum signatures in Axion Dark Matter and Gravity
Abstract : This licentiate thesis in theoretical physics focuses on the existence of quantum features in physical systems such as axion dark matter and gravity. Our focus is mostly on effects which appear at low energies, a regime in which our models can be confronted with current experiments or within the foreseeable future. READ MORE

3. Making Maps and Keeping Logs : Quantum Gravity from Classical Viewpoints
Abstract : This thesis explores three different aspects of quantum gravity. First we study D3-brane black holes in Calabi-Yau compactifications of type IIB string theory. Using the OSV conjecture and a relation between topological strings and matrix models we show that some black holes have a matrix model description. READ MORE

4. Scattering Amplitudes in Supersymmetric Quantum Chromodynamics and Gravity
Abstract : Quantum field theory is a theoretical framework for the description of nature in terms of fundamental particles, fields and their interactions. In the quantum regime, elementary scattering processes are observables in many experiments and studied in theoretical physics. READ MORE

5. Plasma Oscillations in Holographic Quantum Matter
Abstract : In this thesis we explore strongly correlated matter in the framework of holographic duality. Specifically, we examine the quasinormal modes of such systems, and we extend the current framework to efficiently and naturally cover plasmons and other collective modes that may be found within strongly correlated matter.
