  1. 1. Quantum State Analysis : Probability theory as logic in Quantum mechanics

    Author : Anders Månsson; Anders Karlsson; Gunnar Björk; Ingemar Bengtsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; quantum; quantum mechanics; state; state analysis; probability; probability theory; logic; Photonics; Fotonik;

    Abstract : Quantum mechanics is basically a mathematical recipe on how to construct physical models. Historically its origin and main domain of application has been in the microscopic regime, although it strictly seen constitutes a general mathematical framework not limited to this regime. 2. 2. Photonic quantum information and experimental tests of foundations of quantum mechanics

    Author : Magnus Rådmark; Mohamed Bourennane; John Rarity; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Quantum information; quantum optics; foundations of quantum mechanics; entanglement; non-contextuality; Kochen-Specker theorem; parametric down-conversion; quantum state engineering; Physics; Fysik; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : Entanglement is a key resource in many quantum information schemes and in the last years the research on multi-qubit entanglement has drawn lots of attention. In this thesis the experimental generation and characterisation of multi-qubit entanglement is presented. Specifically we have prepared entangled states of up to six qubits. READ MORE

  3. 3. Dynamics of Quantum Correlations with Photons : Experiments on bound entanglement and contextuality for application in quantum information

    Author : Elias Amselem; Mohamed Bourennane; Antonio Acín; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Quantum information; quantum optics; foundations of quantum mechanics; entanglement; non-contextuality; Kochen-Specker theorem; parametric down-conversion; quantum state engineering; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : The rapidly developing interdisciplinary field of quantum information, which merges quantum and information science, studies non-classical aspects of quantum systems. These studies are motivated by the promise that the non-classicality can be used to solve tasks more efficiently than classical methods would allow. READ MORE

  4. 4. Quantum optics in constrained geometries

    Author : Björn Hessmo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quantum chemistry; quantum optics; atom optics; complementarity; magnetic traps; laser cooling; quantum information; quantal phases; Kvantkemi; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi; Quantum Chemistry; kvantkemi;

    Abstract : When light exhibits particle properties, and when matter exhibits wave properties quantum mechanics is needed to describe physical phenomena. A two-photon source produces nonmaximally entangled photon pairs when the source is small enough to diffract light. It is shown that diffraction degrades the entanglement. READ MORE

    Abstract : In the thesis, three-dimensionally confined resonant tunneling structures were studied experimentally. Two approaches were used for obtaining quantum confinement: gate-defined lateral constriction of double barrier structures, and epitaxial growth of self-assembled quantum dots. READ MORE
