1. Diode-pumped rare-earth-doped quasi-three-level lasers
Abstract : Many rare-earth-doped materials are suitable for laser operation and this thesis focuses on diode-pumped solid-state lasers employing crystals doped with the trivalent rare-earth ions neodymium (Nd3+), ytterbium (Yb3+) and erbium (Er3+). Especially, the quasi-three-level transitions in Nd and Yb have been studied as well as the eye-safe three-level transition around 1. READ MORE

2. Quasi-Phasematched nonlinear processes in KTiOPO4 isomorphs
Abstract : This thesis explores the use of nonlinear crystals from theKTiOPO4(KTP) family with the aim to extend the possibleapplications for laser sources and to gain more knowledge aboutthe materials benefits and limits. The work focussed onoptical parametric oscillators (OPOs) and optical parametricamplifiers (OPAs), which employ second order nonlinearprocesses. READ MORE

3. Spectral Management in Quasi-Phase-Matched Parametric Devices
Abstract : Nonlinear optical interaction in quasi-phase-matched structures opens up unique possibilities to build compact and efficient parametric devices such as optical parametric oscillators, generators, and amplifiers with tailored spectral properties. The focus of this thesis is on novel parametric interactions with periodically-poled KTiOPO4 (PPKTP) as the parametric gain medium. READ MORE

4. Advanced nano- and microdomain engineering of Rb-doped KTiOPO4 for nonlinear optical applications
Abstract : Fine-pitch ferroelectric domain gratings are extensively used for generation of light in the visible and near-infrared spectral regions through quasi-phase matched (QPM) frequency conversion. Sub-μm QPM devices enables demonstration of nonlinear optics with counterpropagating waves, a field of nonlinear optics which remains sparsely explored due to the difficulty of fabricatinghigh quality gratings. 5. Backward and Forward Nonlinear Optical Processes in Potassium Titanyl Phosphate
Abstract : Second-order nonlinear optical processes generate radiation across a broad spectrum, including UV and the far-infrared. In this thesis, new light sources in the near(NIR) and mid infrared (MIR) using three-wave mixing geometries in periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate (PPKTP) is studied. READ MORE
