  1. 26. Switching ON Fetal B Lymphopoiesis

    Author : Trine Kristiansen; Avdelningen för molekylär hematologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; B-1 B cells; Lin28; Fetal hematopoietic stem cells;

    Abstract : B-1a cells are innate-like lymphocytes that develop primarily during fetal and neonatal life, whereas adult bone marrow (BM) hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) preferentially give rise to follicular B-2 cells. Functioning at the interface of the innate and adaptive immune systems, B-1a cells provide a non-redundant first line of defense prior to the temporally delayed establishment of a B-2 cell response. 2. 27. Satellite cells in human skeletal muscle : molecular identification quantification and function

    Author : Mona Lindström; Lars-Eric Thornell; Hannu Kalimo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; satellite cell markers; NCAM; Pax7; MyoD; myogenin; DLK1 FA1; c-Met; human skeletal muscle; immunohistochemistry; muscle growth; muscle hypertrophy; Morphology; cell biology; pathology; Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : Skeletal muscle satellite cells located between the plasma membrane and the basal lamina of muscle fibres, could for many years, only be studied in situ by electron microscopy. The introduction of immunohistochemistry and the discovery of molecular markers of satellite cells then made them accessible for light microscopic studies and a wealth of information is today available. 3. 28. TGFβ Signal Transduction in Endothelial Cells

    Author : Gudrun Valdimarsdóttir; Peter ten Dijke; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Christer Betsholtz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Transforming growth factor β (TGFβ) is a multifunctional cytokine that is involved in many biological effects, such as proliferation, migration, differentiation and cell survival. TGFβ regulates cellular responses by binding to a heteromeric complex of type I and type II serine/threonine kinase receptors. READ MORE

  4. 29. Roles of Myc and Mad in cell cycle and apoptosis

    Author : Ami Albihn; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Myc; Mad; cell cycle; apoptosis; differentiation; tumorigenesis; chemotherapy;

    Abstract : The Myc network proteins are key mediators in regulation of cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis. They are basic region hehx-loop-helix/leucine zipper (bHLH/Zip) transcription factors that require hetero-dimerization with Max for specific DNA binding Mad family members are expressed primarily in differentiated tissues where they recruit histone deacetylase complexes via the mSin3 interaction domain (SID) to repress transcription of target genes and prevent cell growth In contrast, members of the Myc family activate target gene transcription by recruitment of histone acetyltransferases to their transcriptional activation domain (TAD), inducing proliferation and S phase entry. 5. 30. Studies on adult stem cells

    Author : Konstantinos Meletis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : While our bodies are aging, in quite a few tissues, new cells are born every day, till the day we die. As you are reading this sentence, there is perhaps a new neuron born in your brain (and some are dying). READ MORE
