  1. 1. Genomic and morphological diversity of marine planktonic diatom-diazotroph associations : a continuum of integration and diversification through geological time

    Author : Andrea Caputo; Rachel Ann Foster; Monika Quinones Winder; Ramon Massana; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton; diatoms; cyanobacteria; diazotrophs; symbiosis; evolution; phylogenetics; confocal microscopy; qPCR; CARD-FISH; tropics; sub-tropics; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Symbioses between eukaryotes and nitrogen (N2)-fixing cyanobacteria (or diazotrophs) are quite common in the plankton community. A few genera of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) such as Rhizosolenia, Hemiaulus and Chaetoceros are well known to form symbioses with the heterocystous diazotrophic cyanobacteria Richelia intracellularis and Calothrix rhizosoleniae. 2. 2. Renewable and Scalable Energy Storage Materials Derived from Quinones in Biomass

    Author : Lianlian Liu; Olle Inganäs; Niclas Solin; Daniel Brandell; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; renewable; scalable; quinones; energy storage;

    Abstract : Currently there is an urgent need to reduce the use of fossil fuels, and efficient sustainable energy harvesters from sun and wind have been developed and are widely used for electricity generation. Storage of electrical energy is accordingly necessary to accommodate the time varying supply of wind and solar electricity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cellular toxicity of quinones : Redox- and addition chemistry

    Author : Karin Öllinger; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Quinoid compounds are widely occurring in nature. They have cytotoxic properties and they are also used as antineoplastic agents. The cytotoxic properties can be explained by the ability of quinones to generate active oxygen species by redox cycling, by addition to cellular nucleophiles, and by inhibition of DNA transcription. 4. 4. Oxidative Trifluoromethylation and other Functionalization Reactions of Alkenes and Alkynes

    Author : Pär Janson; Kálmán Szabó; Antonio Togni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palladium; copper; transition metal; trifluoromethylation; catalysis; acetoxylation; difunctionalization; oxidation; mechanistic study; alkenes; alkynes; quinones; organisk kemi; Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the use of various potent oxidants in organic synthesis. The main focus is directed at selectively introducing trifluoromethyl groups into compounds containing double or triple bonds. All reactions proceed under mild conditions and can in most cases be performed on the bench-top. READ MORE

  5. 5. Designing Quinone-based Organic Batteries

    Author : Christian Strietzel; Martin Sjödin; Philippe Poizot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conducting polymers; organic electronics; quinones; organic battery; electrochemistry; Engineering Science with specialization in Nanotechnology and Functional Materials; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot nanoteknologi och funktionella material;

    Abstract : The demand for secondary energy storage is ever increasing, being at the forefront of the transformation to a sustainable society. Conventional batteries, whose electrode materials require mining and high temperature refining, generate substantial carbon dioxide emissions during production. READ MORE
