    Abstract : Case-control studies comprising telephone interviews for 333 cases of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), 226 cases of Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML), 330 cases of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and matched controls were conducted.     Abstract : The objective of this thesis has been to assess whether there are indications suggesting that new methods for diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic carcinoma (PCa) has been followed by an improved prognosis, and to assess the possible role of smoking and gastric resection in the causation of the disease. Of the 1,200 new cases PCa diagnosed in Sweden yearly, the majority are older than 70 years, the case fatality rate being close to 100%. READ MORE

Between 1974-1992, a total of 22 444 men (mean age 44 years range 27 - 61) and 10 902 women (mean age 50 years, range 28 - 58) attended the programme, with an overall attendance rate of 70% (range 64-78).
