  1. 11. Outcome after surgery of congenital cataract

    Author : Anna Lundvall; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Congenital cataract; cataract surgery; intraocular lens; infant; paediatric; rabbit; complication; glaucoma; after-cataract; posterior capsule opacification.;

    Abstract : The visual outcome in infants undergoing surgery for bilateral congenital cataract has improved considerably because of improved surgical methods and the realisation that early detection, allowing early cataract extraction and immediate optical correction, can prevent otherwise irreversible deprivation amblyopia. The management of unilateral congenital cataract is still of the most difficult problems in paediatric ophtalmology. READ MORE

  2. 12. The interaction between the neuroretina and the retinal pigment epithelium : an electrophysiological study of the effects of possible messenger substances and their analogues

    Author : Ragnheiður Bragadóttir; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is of great importance in photoreceptor homeostasis. The photoreceptors are highly specialized cells which cannot survive without the RPE. It has been postulated that messenger substances are involved in the interaction between the RPE and the inner retina. READ MORE

  3. 13. Meniscectomy, meniscal repair, and prosthetic substitution : Clinical and experimental investigations

    Author : Karola Messner; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This study comprising 7 papers is concerned with different treatment of meniscal injuries. The aim was to analyse today's clinical methods and the possibility for prosthetic substitution in the future. Open peripheral meniscal repair was compared with partial arthroscopic meniscectomy in a 7·year follow-up evaluation of 130 patients. READ MORE

  4. 14. Fish Lenses : Anatomy and Optics

    Author : Tomasz M Kozłowski; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasticity; Development; Cellular structure; Lens fiber cells; Modeling; Laser Scanning; Schlieren photography; Fast Fourier Transform FFT ;

    Abstract : I have investigated some of the biological regulatory mechanisms governing the development of crystalline lenses. I used fish as model animals because they possess optically interesting lenses, while the geometrical simplicity of fish lenses allows for studies that are difficult or impossible with the lenses of other animals. 5. 15. Human embryonic stem cells for retinal repair : preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies for the treatment of age-related macular degeneration with human embryonic stem cell-derived retinal pigment epithelial cells

    Author : Sandra Petrus-Reurer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the major cause of vision loss in the industrialized countries in people above sixty years of age. The dry advanced form of the disease, also termed as geographic atrophy (GA), is characterized by the progressive death of retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPE) and consequent loss of the adjacent photoreceptor (PR) layer, leading to an impaired visual function.
