  1. 1. Modelling and Numerical Analysis of the Centrifugal Compressor and its Operation in the Pressurised SOFC GT Process

    Author : Andre Hildebrandt; Kraftverksteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; applied thermodynamics; Thermal engineering; radial compressor; Gas Turbine; Termisk teknik; Solid Oxide Fuel Cell; termodynamik;

    Abstract : Small-scale power plants based on the SOFC-GT (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell-Gas Turbine) system are foreseen for future application such as APU units in flight transportation systems or stationary power production. Although these new systems offer high load flexibility and potentially high efficiency, there are several constraints referring to thermal/mechanical stress of the fuel cell as well as to a potential risk of aerodynamic instability of the GT compressor due to the different physical behavior of the SOFC and the GT. 2. 2. On Stability and Surge in Turbocharger Compressors

    Author : Bertrand Kerres; Andreas Cronhjort; Mihai Mihaescu; Jörg Seume; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbocharger; Radial Compressor; Stability; Surge; Hurst exponent; Fractals; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : Turbochargers are used on many automotive internal combustion engines to increase power density. The broad operating range of the engine also requires a wide range of the turbocharger compressor. At low mass flows, however, turbo compressor operation becomes unstable and eventually enters surge. 3. 3. Numerical computations of the unsteady flow in turbochargers

    Author : Fredrik Hellström; Laszlo Fuchs; Ricardo Martinez-Botas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbochargers; turbine; compressor; unsteady pulsatile flow; perturbations; Large Eddy Simulation; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Abstract : Turbocharging the internal combustion (IC) engine is a common technique to increase the power density. If turbocharging is used with the downsizing technique, the fuel consumption and pollution of green house gases can be decreased. READ MORE

  4. 4. Engine Optimized Turbine Design

    Author : Nicholas Anton; Anders Christiansen-Erlandsson; Magnus Genrup; Marc Gugau; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Turbocharger; Heavy-duty; Turbine; Axial; Radial; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : The focus on our environment has never been as great as it is today. The impact of global warming and emissions from combustion processes become increasingly more evident with growing concerns among the world’s inhabitants. The consequences of extreme weather events, rising sea levels, urban air quality, etc. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aero Engine Intercooling

    Author : Xin Zhao; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PIV; CFD; porous media; aero engine; pressure measurements; intercooling control; system performance; intercooler; variable flow path;

    Abstract : Intercooling has the potential to provide a shortcut to the next generation aero engines with higher bypass ratio (BPR), higher overall pressure ratio (OPR) and higher turbine inlet temperature (TIT) by lowering the high pressure compressor (HPC) delivery temperature. To be able to establish a systematic understanding of aero engine intercooling, the heat transfer and pressure loss characteristics of a given intercooler architecture need to be known in the parameter range anticipated for the engine optimization.
