  2. 2. CT Urography : Efforts to Reduce the Radiation Dose

    Author : Pär Dahlman; Anders Magnusson; Anders Sundin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urinary tract malignancy; renal cell carcinoma; urography; x-ray computed tomography; radiation dosage; dose escalation; hematuria diagnosis; Diagnostic radiology; Diagnostisk radiologi; Radiologi; Radiology;

    Abstract : Computed tomography urography (CTU) is today the imaging method used to investigate patients with suspected urinary tract malignancy, replacing the old imaging method intravenous pyelography (IVP) about a decade ago. The downside of this shift was that the effective radiation dose to the examined patient was eight times higher for CTU compared to IVP. READ MORE

  3. 3. Orthopaedic measurements with computed radiography. Methodological development, accuracy, and radiation dose with special reference to the weight-bearing lower extremity and the dislocating patella

    Author : Jan Sanfridsson; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; digital.; computer-assisted; Picture Archiving and Communication Systems; computed radiography; radiography; effective dose; radiation dosage; measurements; biomechanics; dislocating patella; musculoskeletal; patellofemoral joint; Knee joint; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this study was to develop and evaluate a measurement system for computed radiography (CR) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), permitting measurements of long distances and angles in and between related images. The developed measurement system, which was based on the QUESTOR Precision Radiography (QPR) system, was applied to the weight-bearing knee with special reference to the dislocating patella. 4. 4. Optimization of paediatric CT examinations - An approach to minimize absorbed dose to patients with regard to image quality and observer variability

    Author : Kerstin Ledenius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Computed Tomography; Paediatrics; Radiation Dosage; Computer Simulations; Nonparametric Statistics; Observer Variation; Radiographic Image Enhancement;

    Abstract : The absorbed dose to paediatric patients is important bearing in mind the increased risk of radiation-induced cancer due to exposure to X-rays at young ages. Questions have also been raised of whether a CT examination of the paediatric brain might lead to a reduction in cognitive function. READ MORE

  5. 5. Maxillofacial cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) : aspetcs on optimisation

    Author : Ayman Al-Okshi; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CBCT; OPTIMISATION; DOSAGE;

    Abstract : Inom odontologisk såväl som inom medicinsk radiologi sker en snabb utveckling av nya tekniker. Nya metoder för att kunna diagnosticera och följa sjukdomsförlopp över tid introduceras. Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) är en sådan ny teknik, som introducerades inom odontologin under sent 1990-tal. READ MORE
