  1. 6. Secondary absorbed dose distributions and radiation quality in light ion therapy

    Author : Martha Hultqvist; Irena Gudowska; Tatsuhiko Sato; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; secondary doses; light ion therapy; radiation quality; Monte Carlo simulation; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Abstract : Radiotherapy with light ions offers the possibility of achieving a dose distribution which is highly conformed to the target volume while sparing normal tissues. For ions heavier than protons, an additional advantage is the increased Relative Biological Effectiveness (RBE) as compared to conventional photon and electron beams. READ MORE

  2. 7. Out-of-field doses from proton therapy and doses from CBCT imaging : Risk of radiation-induced second cancer from modern radiotherapy

    Author : Oscar Ardenfors; Irena Gudowska; Alexandru Dasu; Cathrine Jonsson; Pawel Olko; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Abstract : The use of ionizing radiation for treatment of cancer diseases is continuously increasing as patient survival is improving and new treatment techniques are emerging. While this development is beneficial for curing primary tumors, concerns have been raised regarding the unwanted dose contribution to healthy tissues of patients and the associated risk of radiation-induced second cancer (RISC). 3. 8. Impact of Ionizing Radiation on 4H-SiC Devices

    Author : Muhammad Usman; Anders Hallén; Einar Örn Sveinbjörnsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Silicon carbide; ionizing radiation; bipolar junction transistors; reliability; surface passivation; high-k dielectrics; MIS; radiation hardness;

    Abstract : Electronic components, based on current semiconductor technologies and operating in radiation rich environments, suffer degradation of their performance as a result of radiation exposure. Silicon carbide (SiC) provides an alternate solution as a radiation hard material, because of its wide bandgap and higher atomic displacement energies, for devices intended for radiation environment applications. 4. 9. Radiation Hardness of 4H-SiC Devices and Circuits

    Author : Sethu Saveda Suvanam; Anders Hallén; Carl-Mikael Zetterling; Ulrike Grossner; KTH; []
    Keywords : Silicon carbide; radiation hardness; protons; gamma radiation; bipolar junction transistors; aluminium oxide; surface recombination.; Informations- och kommunikationsteknik; Information and Communication Technology;

    Abstract : Advances in space and nuclear technologies are limited by the capabilities of the conventional silicon (Si) electronics. Hence, there is a need to explore materials beyond Si with enhanced properties to operate in extreme environments. In this regards, silicon carbide (4H-SiC), a wide bandgap semiconductor, provides suitable solutions. READ MORE

  5. 10. Low-Dose Ionizing Radiation Induces Neurotoxicity in the Neonate : Acute or fractionated doses and interaction with xenobiotics in mice

    Author : Sonja Buratovic; Per Eriksson; Henrik Viberg; Bo Stenerlöw; Anders Fredriksson; Jean-René Jourdain; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ionizing radiation; Neonatal; Neurotoxicity; Behaviour; Nicotine; Ketamine; Mouse; Cognition; Acute irradiation; Fractionated irradiation;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the developmental neurotoxic effects of exposure to low-dose ionizing radiation (IR), alone or together with xenobiotics, during a critical period of neonatal brain development in mice.During mammalian brain development there is a period called the brain growth spurt (BGS), which involves extensive growth and maturation of the brain.
