  1. 11. Silicon Tracking and a Search for Long-lived Particles

    Author : Rebecca Carney; Samuel Silverstein; Sara Strandberg; Maurice Garcia-Sciveres; Joel Goldstein; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS; silicon; silicon tracking; radiation damage; neuromorphic; neuromorphic computing; long-lived particles; susy; rpvll; displaced vertices; pixel; pixel detector; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The ATLAS Detector, below the surface of the Swiss-French border, measures the remnants of high-energy proton-proton collisions, accelerated by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Recently the LHC paused operations, having delivered an integrated luminosity corresponding to 150 fb−1 of data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. READ MORE

    Abstract : First principle electronic structure theory is used to describe the effect of crystal binding on radiation detectors, electron transport properties, and structural damage induced by intense irradiation. A large database containing general electronic structure results to which data mining algorithms can be applied in the search for new functional materials, a case study is presented for scintillator detector materials. 3. 13. Ultrafast spin dynamics at the nanoscale : using coherent X-ray and terahertz radiation

    Author : Nanna Zhou Hagström; Stefano Bonetti; Stefan Eisebitt; Ferran Macià Bros; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; XFEL; small-angle X-ray scattering; X-ray holography; ultrafast magnetism; symmetry-breaking; magnetic domains; terahertz; magnetic field enhancement; metamaterial; time-resolved magneto-optical microscope; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : The field of ultrafast magnetism is driven by the growing need for faster and more efficient magnetic data storage, which comprises the vast majority of the digital information worldwide. However, after more than two decades of intense research, the understanding of the fundamental physical processes governing the transfer of angular momentum necessary for magnetic switching, is still lacking, partially hampered by the appropriate experimental tools. Abstract : Taking into account the technological demand for the controlled preparation of atomically precise graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with well-defined properties, the present thesis is focused on the investigation of the role of the underlying metal substrate in the process of building GNRs using bottom-up strategy and on the changes in the electronic structure of GNRs induced by the GNR-metal interaction. The combination of surface sensitive synchrotron-radiation-based spectroscopic techniques and scanning tunneling microscopy with in situ sample preparation allowed to trace evolution of the structural and electronic properties of the investigated systems. 5. 15. Modelling of laser plasma interaction with applications

    Author : Benjamin Svedung Wettervik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electron wakefield acceleration; ion acceleration; coherent X-ray pulses; plasma; Vlasov-Maxwell equations; continuum methods; radiation generation;

    Abstract : The development of laser systems with ultra-high intensities has both opened up prospects for compact particle accelerators, as well as probing QED-effects, which are present in the high intensity regime. To describe laser matter interaction, it is necessary to self-consistently account for the paths of a large number of particles and the corresponding electromagnetic fields, with the addition of stochastic effects at high laser intensities.
